Notes on Activism at School
Our school is aware of various organizations promoting sit-outs, or walk-outs, in response to recent State laws regarding vaccine mandates. This information has been circulating on social media in our community, district and state. Here is some important general information families should know about how the school will respond to these activities.
Student Participation at school:
- Students have a right to peacefully assemble and/or protest.
- We would encourage students to remain on campus in a designated gathering location.
- If students move off campus our School Resource Officer would work with his partners and the school to ensure safety of our students.
- Students would be marked truant if they missed class.
- Admin and campus supervision would monitor and immediately address any student trying to incite disruption.
- If the gathering becomes unsafe, depending on the bell schedule we will use our phased system (ring a bell early and/or call secure campus) to bring students back to class and secure campus.
Student Participation by "sitting out" (staying home):
- Students whose parents identify the reason for their absence as participating in the sit in will be marked as an unexcused absence.
- Teachers are not required to allow make-up work or tests for an unexcused absence.
If you have concerns about your student safety please contact one of our Assistant Principals.
