NEWSWORTHY
The Battle is Over!
A competition that began with 313 students and three teams in each SJUSD elementary school ended with one victorious team at the culminating District Battle of the Bookworm on March 26.
During the months of preparation, students read three required books and earned points by completing Google classroom assignments. Each school held a campus competition, allowing teams to earn additional points. The team with the most points from each school advanced to the District competition.
The Bookworm Battle strategy for the Family Feud style competition included working as a team to find correct answers. Congratulations to team “Super Seahawk Readers” from Megan Cope Elementary -- the 2024 Bookworm Champions! They received event prizes, their name engraved on a traveling trophy and, of course, bragging rights for the next year!

I See Colors...Everywhere!
On April 25, choir students from each elementary school, Monte Vista Middle, North Mountain Middle, Hyatt World Language Academy and San Jacinto High School gathered to present an All District Choral Concert. The evening was hosted by SJHS Choir Director Keith Still and included musical selections from each age group.
A highlight was the grand finale featuring voices of all age levels, a slide show of SJUSD students and the inspirational lyrics of I SEE COLORS, “Changing the world now day by day. Looking to find a better way. There's gotta be more than we can see. It's gonna be up to you and me. I see colors…everywhere!”
Band-O-Rama 2024
Busloads of students arrived at San Jacinto High on April 26 to be part of the SJUSD Band-O-Rama! The event included performances by the SJHS symphonic band, an all elementary school band, an all middle school band and a grand finale featuring over 450 musicians of all ages.
Due to space constraints, parents and friends were unable to join in person however, thanks to the SJHS Tiger Media Network students, the show was live streamed and is still available to watch at THIS LINK.

STAFF SHOUT OUTS & KUDOS
KUDOS TO:
MARY CARRILLO (Teacher, San Jacinto Leadership Academy) Mrs. Carrillo has worked tirelessly as both a PE teacher and our High School Athletic Director. Doing double-duty as she has all school year is tough work and we are so appreciative of her dedication, not to mention strong organizational and leadership skills.
RAYMOND GALLARDO (Support Specialist II, Technology) Raymond responded to my Technology Request to have an app installed on my classroom Smartboard. While doing the installation we were brainstorming ways that I could use it more efficiently to teach my Kinders. When I told him some of the ideas and wishes that I had, he took the time to troubleshoot how to use the tech I currently have, to make those wishes come true! He was able to make some adjustments that have made a significant difference in my ability to teach the way that I had envisioned, while also increasing student engagement! It was Raymond's compassion and positivity that invited me to even share my ideas with him. I am truly grateful for how he went over and above the "Tech Request" to support me in making my classroom more engaging and tech friendly! Thanks Raymond, from all of us in Room 15!
MARGARITA LANIER (Assistant Principal, Park Hill Elementary) Ms. Lanier is an amazing assistant principal! I appreciate how she works so hard every day. All of the students love her!
AMARA WATSON (Secretary I, San Jacinto High) Amara is a superstar! She greets everyone she meets with a smile and is so amazing and kind with the students. We see your hard work, Amara, and appreciate how you always go above and beyond for everyone in the counseling center. Thank you for all you do!
ANGELA BELFRY (Teacher on Special Assignment) Angela's passion for her content is inspiring! I appreciate her knowledge and ability to motivate others to have a deep understanding of what they are teaching in order to provide clarity and support to all learners in their classrooms.
JOHN WILDER (Principal, Edward Hyatt World Language Academy) Mr. Wilder is an amazing principal! He is invested in making Edward Hyatt World Language Academy a great place. He takes the time to get to know you and listen. He makes connections and works to address the needs of staff, students and parents. Edward Hyatt World Language Academy is so lucky to have Mr. Wilder as our principal! He is a phenomenal Phoenix!
EVELYN GARCIA (Secretary I, Expanded Learning Opportunities Program) Evelyn is an exceptional addition to the Expanded Learning (ELOP) team. She consistently goes above and beyond her role, displaying a willingness to learn and improve every day. Her positivity and supportiveness make her a pleasure to work alongside, and her commitment to ensuring that our team and staff are supported is truly commendable. Despite having been here for only a short time, her growth is apparent and she has already made a significant impact.
