Growing in Faith Together
From the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis
Diocese of Rochester Chrism Mass
The Chrism Mass is held during Holy Week in every Catholic (arch)diocese. During this mass, the priests, deacons and lay faithful of the Diocese of Rochester representatives gather around Bishop Matano, who blesses the Holy Oils for use in the coming year. The Chrism Mass reminds us of our oneness in Christ through Baptism and its holy anointing, made possible by the ministry of our bishop and his priests. During the liturgy, the entire assembly is called to renew its baptismal promises; deacons and priests also renew their vow of obedience to our bishop and their commitment to serve God’s people. At the end of the Chrism Mass, the Holy Oils are brought back to parishes for use in the coming year. Young adults are invited to this beautiful liturgy!

Young Adults at Easter Vigil
Each year at the Easter Vigil the Church welcomes new members and celebrates full initiation with those who have not received all of their Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, & Eucharist). This year, the Church will welcome 117 young adults – 42 who have never been baptized! These numbers show that we have an opportunity to expand our reach to young adults. There are plenty of people who are looking for what we have to offer. Do you have young adults participating who are in need of Confirmation? Consider asking to be a part of the RCIA team and inviting young adults to celebrate the Sacraments! Not only will it bring other young adults into a closer relationship with the parish & Church, but it publicly shows the parish how important and present young adults are!

Young Adult Gathering Idea
Cinema Divina
Heat up some buttery popcorn and try this “Cinema Divina” young adult ministry gathering idea from Young Adult Ministry in a Box. Show a meaningful, thought-provoking film, followed by a conversation about its religious themes. Here are some suggestions:
- Watch “The Apostle” and hold a discussion about the topic of redemption.
- Watch “The Way,” Martin Sheen’s recent movie about people on the famous pilgrimage, Camino de Santiago, in Spain.
- During the Easter season watch “Babette’s Feast” and hold a discussion about grace.
- Watch “Of Gods and Men” to initiate a conversation about vocation or community.
