Rise to power
Nero's mother married the emperor Claudius. She convinced him to disown his own son so Nero could have the throne. She also convinced him to give his daughter in marriage to Nero.
Major Achievements while in power
Nero ended the secret trials and gave the senate more independence. He also banned capital punishment, allowed slaves to sue unjust owners, and lowered taxes.
Fall from power or death
The Senate announced his death sentence against him and Galba was the new emperor. On June 68, Nero committed sucide.
Lasting influence
He is known for killing his mother and his pregnant wife.
