Lamkin Lines
March 8, 2024
From The Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Spring is here! Thank you to all who attended our annual Safari Night parent night on Tuesday. Students enjoyed seeing the artwork, shopping at the bookfair, receiving take home learning materials, seeing cute animals and making a tornado in a bottle! Title I funds were used to purchase the materials and snacks. This month we will explore what it means to have courage and how to be courteous.
We have some EXCITING news to share- at the CFISD school board meeting on Monday evening, Lamkin’s summer 2024 renovation project was approved. Below is a synopsis of what will occur at Lamkin this summer.
The renovation includes the following:
- All classes will have doors that will be locked during the school day.
- We will have doors with key access at the start of the 4th, 5th and PK/LS/ECSE hallways.
- We will have a wall with doors with key access in the front foyer and back foyer that lead to the instructional areas.
- We will receive all new furniture, carpet, and LED lights in classrooms.
- Our back bus loop will be shifted down towards the portable buildings.
- Portable buildings will be relocated.
- We will have security fencing that require badge access for enhanced safety.
- Our front drive will be relocated further down Telge with the main entrance relocated.
- The front desk area will be reinforced with enhanced glass and another door added for safety.
It will be quite a project and we are excited that CFISD bond funds that allow for the safety upgrades and renovation features. Our staff will be busy this spring packing up materials at Lamkin to be ready for the renovation.
Teacher of the Year:
We celebrated celebrating Alyssa Hurban on Thursday at the CFISD teacher of the year gala. Mrs. Hurban is a talented 1st grade teacher and is very deserving of this honor.
Field Day 2024:
We are hoping for field day to be on March 28th for students in grades K-5th. (PK will have a field day later in the spring.) At this time, we are waiting on word that the fields will be usable for field day from the renovation project manager. There is a chance that a portion of our playground will be fenced off for early renovation projects. As soon as we have confirmation, details will be sent. This year, each student may have 2 guests come to watch field day.
Book Fair:
Thank you for supporting our Lamkin book fair. The funds raised are used to purchase books and to have authors visit Lamkin.
Lamkin Care Drive:
Thank you to all who contributed to the care drive. Lamkin students donated over 800 care items. The recipients of the items are: REACH Unlimited and Cypress Creek Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Both are located in our school community area and were appreciative of the items for those that they take care of. Thank you for showing kindness to our community. The fifth grade students donated the most and will be treated to a surprise treat after spring break.
HEB Earth Day Challenge:
Lamkin will be collecting plastic bags through HEB’s recycling challenge. Please start collecting now and send with your student to school from March 18-April 8. There is an attached flyer with details. Acceptable bags include: dry cleaning bags, produce bags, plastic grocery bags and newspaper plastic bags. Please ensure that the bags are dry and free from food. Please help with this worthwhile lesson on recycling.
As we enter this last portion of the school year, good attendance is very important. Please ensure your child is at school each day and on time. Instruction for students begins at 8:15 each day. Thank you very much for your continued support of Lamkin Elementary and best wishes for a relaxing spring break.
