School Psych Made Simple
Wrapping up for a Fresh Start
Take some time to reflect
If you’re like me when my kids were in elementary school, the end of the year is characterized by a mud room or dining room table full of precious memorabilia from the year gone by. The papers, reports, art projects and yearbooks all make their way from school to some pile or other in the house! Before you relegate anything to the big black hefty bag…take some time to review and recognize the growth that your child has made over the course of the year and celebrate their accomplishments!
Gather up their work samples…
Read over your child's report card together.
Reflect on major moments throughout the year.
Discuss all the nonacademic progress your child has made this year.
Maybe she managed to navigate a difficult social triangle with two other girls. Perhaps your son made a travel soccer team this year. Maybe a new friendship was born out of a shared interest in chess. Whatever the accomplishment, the fact that you are encouraging him/her to think about them builds a sense of optimism in your child and promotes the very important skill of introspection.
Enjoy the slower pace of the summer
