Happy Peace Day!
Dear Families,
We have been very busy this week focusing on how we make and keep friends and how to successfully join into groups. While we discussed different ways to show how to be a good friend, the children enjoyed tracing their own hands to make doves, symbolizing our peaceful ways within the classroom. We will fly them high in the school to remind us of our continued work towards keeping harmony between one another throughout the year. We also dressed in white on Thursday to form a large PEACE symbol and took a group photo. The students loved this! We interviewed a couple students from each class about what Peace means to them? In order to maintain positive relationships, children must also be able to take turns and begin speaking and interacting with others. It is useful for all children to practice these skills in playful ways to become confident initiating and engaging in conversations.
Therefore, on Wednesday, the students listened to the read aloud “The Rainbow Fish” and then took turns re-telling the story with their classmates. This was a playful bonding experience that allowed the students to recall different parts of the story, the order they came in, and who the characters were as well. They also had the opportunity to play “My Turn at the Microphone”, where they had a turn to speak into a make-believe microphone to ask and answer questions. This activity showed each child’s ability to wait for their turn and ask questions using What, When, Who, Where, or Why?
Next week we will introduce our clothes unit. The students will learn about many different books, numbers, shapes, colors, and letters involving clothing and their different components.
Have a wonderful and relaxing three day weekend!

Our first round of student learning conferences will be Thursday and Friday, October 12 & 13. There is no school for elementary school students on those days since the teachers will be meeting with all parents to review student learning and set goals for the remainder of the year. Students in grades 1-5 are asked to come to conferences with their parents. PK3, PK4, and Kindergarten conferences will not include the students. We will share information for scheduling conferences at the end of September.
