Climate Zone Project
Subartic and Semiarid
Description: What's there? What does it look like
Subarctic has long and very cold winters, but short and cool to mild summers. Not all trees are able to survive the long winters, but evergreen trees such as pine and spruce are hardy enough to survive the cold. Other ferns, shrubs and grasses can be found during summer months.
Semiarid climate is partially arid or semi-dry and has less than 20 inches of rain each year. It is too dry to support forests of trees, but a few scattered trees that require less water can be found here. Mainly grasses and shrubs cover semiarid land. Similar to Arid plants, these plants can be thorny or waxy so they can preserve or protect water.
Biomes:
Semi arid biomes: These deserts are a lot like the hot and dry deserts. They have long, dry summers. They also have the chaparral and grassland biomes.
Where is it located:
What is the weather like:
Latitude is the main cause of temperatures in the subarctic climate. The temperatures can reach -40 degrees in the winter and as high as 85 degrees in the summer. Due to the cold temperatures there is very little evaporation so there is very little precipitation 10 and 20 inches of rain falls most of it falls in the summer when the evaporation levels are higher.
Semiarid climate depend on the latitude. They follow the same temperature patterns in the surrounding areas, the areas are dry and they average between 10-20 rain inches of rain yearly.
