Dear Parents,
Nature Trail Clean up was a huge success! Big thanks to Trae's Clearing and Grading for their help cutting and clearing trees and cutting stumps for outdoor learning on the nature trail. The Pickens County Career Center is going to rebuild the bridges that cross to and from the nature trail and they are starting on those. This week our Beta Club will pick up limbs and rake along the trail. We continue to be so thankful for all of the support we receive from our community, the Cliffs, and Trae's Clearing and Grading. One of our parents, Lauren Fox, is instrumental in making all of this come to fruition. We look forward to the end result coming soon!
Big thanks to Trae's Clearing and Grading!!

Thanks to these volunteers!
Beta Club
Please have your Beta Club members wear shoes and clothes appropriate for working outside on Monday, April 15. Also, if they have gloves or a rake they could bring to use on the nature trail, please send those as well. Make sure to label anything you send so we can make sure it gets back to you.

ELA Field Test
What is a field test?
Field testing is a chance for our state to “test the test questions” that will be on the final version of the SC Ready ELA test to make sure the questions do a good job measuring content and are clear and fair.
When is the field test?
All students in grades 3-5 will take the field test on Thursday, April 18.
Why is it important for students to work hard on this test?
The more seriously the students take the field test, the better the state can use the results to plan future assessments for our students.
Please have your student eat a good breakfast and get plenty of rest to be prepared to take the test this week.
Artist in Residence for 3K and 4K
Our 3K and 4K students will have Trudel Music Studio as an Artist in Residence on April 17-19. They will meet in the cafeteria from 8:30-10:30 on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Friday, there will be a musical performance at 9:30 for all 3K and 4K parents. If you would like to attend, please come to the cafeteria and sign in/out from there.

Building Character at SME
Each month at Six Mile Elementary, we focus on different character traits and talk about ways to show those traits to others. We discuss the trait in morning meeting in our classrooms. We spotlight the trait on the school news show. Mrs. Orr, our guidance counselor, goes into classrooms and does special lessons with the trait. At the end of each month, we have a Best of the Nest party to honor those students who "shine" in that area.
This month, our word is PATIENCE.
PATIENCE is being willing to wait for something you want now.
It's Not Too Late to Enroll Your Child at SME for next year!
Absence Notes
If your student is absent, you have three days to send a note stating the reason for their absence before it is counted unexcused. You can send a handwritten note or you can email Stephanie Merck at stephaniemerck@pickens.k12.sc.us. You can also email your child's teacher.
When students have accumulated 3 absences in a row without a note, Mrs. Plyler will have to schedule a meeting for an Attendance Conference. Please make sure to get your note in so that this does not happen.
