Wow! I think the data speaks for itself! This doesn't even include the charter schools! The work you do is commendable and you are appreciated! I know we don't have a "special" week to recognize SST/RTI folks like psychologists, counselors, etc so I am declaring we celebrate ourselves at our next meeting on March 20!
Now back to business - as we close out the month of March all schools should be done with the second round of "monitor" meetings for students that were first met on during first semester. (Technically, we would be on our 3rd by now). Remember, this was asked of you back in February (see Feb. newsletter) and now a deadline is being set as we must keep moving forward. With that said, I have changed the due date of the next SST Management log to Tuesday, March 31 (previously was March 13) in order for all meetings to be reflected. Please see the rest of the newsletter for additional details.
In closing, remember we are in this together! Remember..."Good, better, best; never let it rest; until your good becomes your better; and your better becomes your best!" This will be our best year yet!

To Do List March
- What intensive supports are in place?
- Do we need to change the intervention?
- Does the student need one-on-one targeted supports?
- Is the student taking advantage of extra services - before/afterschool tutorial, etc.
- As a school, what additional supports can we make available to these students?
- What can we do differently?
Lastly, please continue to work on supporting and building the capacity of your teachers in terms of Tier 2. We must identify and move those students at the Tier 2 level whose data shows they have not consistently been responding to interventions and move them to Tier 3. (Revisit February newsletter as well as our February monthly meeting agenda notes (Elementary or Middle/HS) for important steps.
SST Management Log - Due on March 31 (REVISED DATE!)
With that said, depending on how you organized your log, you will do one of the following:
- Create an entire new row and put student's name again with new meeting information, etc for all categories
- Expand the column that you put meeting dates in and add the dates of additional meetings held for the student (if all other info stays the same)
- Create a new column, and put 2nd meeting dates for students (if all other info stays the same)
Regardless of how you choose to do this, the log should reflect every meeting held for each student with the pertinent information for each column. Obviously, if the information has changed in the other columns (ie: intervention) you would want to create a new row or expand those columns as well to include additional info.
Reminder - these are the columns that must be on log (and updated as needed).

10 Minute Smack Down!
Spotlight Corner!
Let me just say, I have a new found respect for all employees that work in alternative school settings! As I have spoken with Carolyn on several occasions, I noticed something special about her! She has a presence about her that is motivating as well as encouraging. She eludes confidence and generally cares about the students she works with even when no one else does. As many challenges as she faces on a daily basis, you never hear it in her voice. Most recently, I was amazed at how she described how she was handling a certain situation with a student involved in the courts. I have deep admiration for those that are making a difference in the lives of our most challenging students.
Carolyn has been instrumental to the success of SST/RTI at Crim. She attends weekly content and data dig meetings for English Language Arts and Math, meets with teachers during instructional planning period to discuss student concerns and behavior, provides teachers with updates and feedback for parental contact, research-based interventions and tiered-model, serves as a member of the Instructional Leadership team, chairs the Teaching and Learning committee, serves as a member of the Attendance team, participates in Crim C.A.R.E.S Mentoring program, and serves as a member of the wrap-around Team providing support for potential graduates regarding grades, attendance, home life and anything that involves the educational arena.
Carolyn's motto is: "All students can learn, although they do not learn at the same pace."
Keep up the great work, Carolyn.
