Health Notes
There has been an increase in the number of cases of strep throat and flu as usual during this season of the year. To help prevent the spread of these communicable diseases, I’d like to remind you of the following guidelines:
Promote hand washing in your family. Many students do not wash their hands as recommended, and reinforcement at home is necessary.
Keep your student at home if any of the following occurs:
vomiting within the last 24 hours
diarrhea within the last 24 hours
temperature of 100 degrees F or higher within the last 24 hours without fever lowering medication
strep is suspected, but results of a throat culture have not been received
positive throat culture for strep throat - student may return to school 24 hours after antibiotic treatment has begun
any symptoms of acute illness such as persistent cough, runny nose with body aches
Your student should look and behave like him/herself for 24 - 48 hours before returning to school. Why ???
To protect your student from exposure to more infection before he/she is able to build resistance
To protect the other students and school staff from communicable disease that your child may transmit
Remember:
Hand washing is the most effective means of preventing
the spread of communicable diseases!
