Parent Engagement at Forest Grove
One important indicator of school success is parent engagement.
Simply defined, parent engagement means that parents are attending school events, showing interest in their children’s education, and providing meaningful feedback to the school for how to better serve our students and our families.
I am proud to report that so far parent engagement at Forest Grove is at an all time high.
From the 100-plus family members who attended our welcome back coffee and safety talk, to our incredible attendance at Back to School Night - from our record setting sales at the Book Fair, to our Ice Cream Social that packed our Multipurpose room and playground, it is clear that our families are eager to be involved at Forest Grove Elementary School.
Last week, we had two sessions where parents had the opportunity to learn about the Toolbox social-emotional learning program that we are implementing at Forest Grove.
At the end of the meeting, I informed parents that working with the Pacific Grove Adult School, we have the funding available to offer a series of free parent education classes throughout the year.
Parents at the meeting suggested the following topics:
Internet Safety
Overcoming fears/anxiety
Conflict resolution with siblings
How to structure media/screen time effectively
How to boost low self-esteem
Anger management/tantrums
Educate students about counselor availability at school
Motivating students to learn
Dealing with puberty
Knowing who to trust (child safety)
If there is another topic you would like to see us address with a parent education night, please let me know at broggeman@pgusd.org . By joining together with our parents, we can provide the best possible educational experience for our students.
Thank you,
Buck Roggeman, Principal

This provides an excellent event for students and their families to walk/run/ride together with students, staff, teachers and administrators along our beautiful shoreline, while raising money for our classrooms.
Teachers will be handing out pledge papers to your students and families can help raise money for your child's classroom.

How to Stay Connected to the PTA
Have you turned in your PTA Membership form yet? If not, it's not too late!
Why join PTA? The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more PTA advantages:
Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.
Speak Up. PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.
Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes.
Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.
Visit forestgrovepta.com to download your membership form now!
Want to be a Chaperone or a Volunteer?
We love to have parents help out at school and join us on our field trips. Before you go, make sure you have been fingerprinted through the District office. It is district policy that all parent volunteers be fingerprinted and cleared before working in the room or chaperoning a trip. Pick up a packet in the office or click here.
