SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT: PARENT LETTER
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Calling all young scientists! John W. Moore will be hosting a Science Fair Competition on February 26, 2019 from 5:30-7:00pm! Each student has an option to complete a Science Fair Project at home. We hope that with your enthusiastic encouragement and support, this will be an exciting and educational learning experience for your child! Please register to participate at the following website: http://mooreintermediate.oursciencefair.com/SchoolHome.aspx.
A schedule of due dates and important information regarding your child's project is also located on the website and school website.
The primary objective of this project is to have students approach a problem scientifically. This includes:
- Asking questions and forming hypotheses
- Creating experiments to test those hypotheses
- Organizing data and drawing conclusions
- Writing about scientific research
The project must be experimental in nature as opposed to research oriented. In other words, students must conduct a test, survey, or experiment to determine the answer to their question instead of just only researching the answer. We encourage students to pick topics they are genuinely interested in, since they will be working on these projects for the next several weeks. We are confident the following benefits will result from your child's participation in the Science Fair:
- Reinforcement of grade level science, literacy, and math skills
- Fostering curiosity, awareness, and creativity
- Increasing scientific processing skills and knowledge
- Enhance research techniques
- Have fun with science
Important Dates:
Registration Deadline: January 31, 2019
Project Due at Moore: February 22, 2019
Judging: February 26, 2019
Awards Ceremony: February 26, 2019
Students can work together or individually to complete the projects. Science teachers will be available to assist students with their projects. We appreciate and thank you for your support on this important project.
Any questions regarding the Moore STEM Fair can be directed to the STEM Coordinator, Mrs. McCumber (jmccumber@fsdl.org).

TITLE 1 NEWS: JANUARY
Happy New Year! January’s SIC/APT/Title One meeting is going to be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 5:00pm in the Media Center at Moore. Please come join us and provide your input on Title One spending and suggestions of items needed for the upcoming school year.
All students took the ELA and Math LinkIt assessments in December. These assessments tested students on their grade level content standards. A report will be coming home soon letting you know the score your child made and what this score means. These scores provide valuable data and are used to help teachers drive instruction in their classrooms.
Please remember Moore’s Title One Plan for the year is available for you to view in Mrs. Bennett’s office. If you would like to view the plan, please stop by the school or email brittany.bennett@fsd1.org to set up a time.
Thanks for all you do! Please contact me if there is anything I can do to help.
Brittany Bennett, Curriculum Coordinator
