June 2019 Newsletter
A Message From The Board of Directors
From the Desk of Dave Ertl, Principal CLHS:
With the winding down of yet another school year, I wish to update you on the district’s construction projects. Our Wildcat Community Center project began in earnest immediately after school let out in June of 2018. We had an extremely wet fall which caused many soil corrections that were required. The project was thus delayed but as summer recess approaches, we are getting “back on track” and will open in the summer of 2019.
The “new” Lakeside Elementary School has also seen enormous change since the fall. Walls, windows, sheetrock, and carpeting along with the parking lot are taking shape and are truly amazing to see. From all indications, the building will be ready for moving in the second week in August of 2019.
The Taylors Falls additions and renovations have begun with the ground breaking this past April. The new media center footings are in and are ready to block up the structure and await its roof in the weeks ahead. Immediately after school lets out in early June, the interior renovations will begin, with completion set for the first day of fall classes in September.
Our new agri-science, greenhouse, and manufacturing spaces are open and students are enjoying the marvels of new, updated spaces that meet the demands of our current business and manufacturing industries. This fall, we will have open houses that will highlight these spaces alongside all of CLHS’s additions and remodeling.
The new CL tennis and pickle ball courts opened in July of 2018 and have had many users on a daily basis. The courts will be closed for the majority of June in order for the final surface layer to be applied and the final striping completed. Once done, these courts will be fantastic!
We feel extremely fortunate, proud, and blessed to have had the support and commitment of the Chisago Lakes area for all of the district improvements. The entire community will benefit by these added facilities. Please go to our district website at https://www.isd2144.org for full details of all of our district construction projects along with pictures and video of our new elementary, Wildcat Community Center, and now the Taylors Falls Elementary projects.

Art in Action Camp for youth ages 7-13
8:30am-12:00pm
'Art In Action' is committed to meaningful engagement with the arts through process-based learning,” says Arts Education Director Brooke Smith. “We chose the name Art In Action because we want our campers to think of art as a verb. It’s something you do, not something you make. Art is a process, not a product. When you focus on art as an action, then mistakes are less scary. And it's only through making mistakes that we really can learn anything. We believe that practicing this mindset makes us better creative thinkers and better people.”
