Dear Families,
We loved seeing many of you at last Friday's auction and thank you for your contributions to enrich the experiences for all the students at Medina. Thank you Andrea, Christine, and the auction committee for all the hard work and planning to make the event so fun and beautiful!
We were blessed with spring weather to start our week which facilitated planting in our school garden, officially named Spirit Garden. Led by Mr. Saltz, our instructional coach, students from PreK to Grade 5 planted seeds from bok choy to radishes and wildflowers. We'll provide picture updates as we see plants growing.
We look forward to our Pastries with Principals event this coming Wednesday, with both in person and virtual options (Click here to join the meeting on Wednesday). Angie DiLoreto, Secondary Science Curriculum Developer, and Dani Ward, Elementary Science Curriculum Developer, will be sharing connections between science and social emotional skills. Come for the learning, the community, and why not...the pastries and coffee?
As mentioned in our previous newsletter, if your student needs a place to pray or spend time away from the lunchroom while fasting during Ramadan, please let your teacher or the front office know. While Ramadan started on March 10th, we continue to wish those who observe, Ramadan Mubarak. And to our families who celebrated Persian New Year this past Tuesday, Nowruz Mubarak!
Lastly and very importantly, we want to thank our 2nd grade families for the delicious staff lunch on Thursday! Everyone looks forward to these lunches, and we deeply appreciate all of the organization, time, money, and efforts spent on these monthly events.
Have a restful weekend everyone!
Warmly,
Betty

ST Math Accounts
Some of you may have noticed students working on a new math app called ST Math. This is used as a supplement to our math curriculum and is a visual program that uses puzzles to teach math and develop problem-solving skills. Each student in grades K-5 has an account until the end of July and can access the program via Clever, on any device with internet access. To learn more and play some demo games, click on bit.ly/welcome_stmath. Puzzles start out simple and get harder as students progress.
Here are suggested weekly time goals:
- K-1st grades: 60 minutes per week
- 2nd grade and above: 90 minutes per week
Reunification Plan
What types of emergency events would require the Student Reunification Process?
Events requiring this process could include a crisis at the school, major earthquake, weather event, power outages, or hazardous materials event.
Why is the Student Reunification Process used?
During emergency events, this organized process protects the safety of the student and provides for an accountable change in custody from school to parent or guardian.
Please download the Reunification Process Flyer : English (PDF) / Español (PDF) / 简体中文(PDF) for detailed information on this process.
Summary Points for Families to Know/Prepare:
Do not come to the school during an emergency. The campus may not be safe and your vehicle may block emergency crews. Information will be released through district communication tools such as School Messenger, websites and social media.
Please stay calm and follow the instructions given by the reunification staff. This will assist with the process of releasing students in a quick and more orderly fashion.
Please update your emergency contact list in ParentVue to include anyone you would feel comfortable picking up your child in case of an emergency event. This may include neighbors or other families in your child's class who live close to you.
Last Chance to Register for Spring for Schools
Reserve Your Seat: Spring for Schools on March 30
Bellevue Schools Foundation is hosting its annual Spring for Schools fundraiser on Saturday, March 30, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Meydenbauer Center. This year’s event is themed as a garden party, centering attendees around the Foundation’s goal to cultivate innovation in each of the District’s 28 schools. “Spring for Schools uniquely offers guests the chance to engage directly with the educators and students who benefit from the Foundation’s funding. Attendees have a chance to learn about the breadth and depth of the support BSF provides throughout the year to all 28 schools and connect with other attendees who are inspired and motivated to make a philanthropic impact in the education sector,” shares the Foundation’s Executive Director, Juliet Buder. BSF is hoping to raise $500,000 from Spring for Schools to fund essential District programs including Mental Health, Computer Science, Early Learning, Fentanyl Prevention, and Arts, Enrichment, and Innovation classroom grants.
Join me and the Foundation, district teachers, Superintendent Aramaki, and your fellow community members for one of the most inspiring and impactful evenings in Bellevue!
Register by March 25.
Donate: A wonderful option if you can’t attend, but still want to invest in the programs your student(s) benefit from!
