A Message From Our Principal
Dear South Families,
I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to South School Ice Cream Social parent leads, Angela O'Connor, Caroline Gunn, and Becky Selna, along with all their volunteers, for planning and organizing the well attended event last Friday night. Our playground was filled with laughter and smiles and everyone enjoyed pizza, donuts, ice cream and tug of war games. It was the perfect evening of fun, catching up with friends and building a stronger school community!
This week and next you will have an opportunity to participate in Fall conferences with your child’s teacher to learn about student achievement, academic progress, and social-emotional well-being. Below are some tips for the conference:
Share important information about your child:
How your child works on school-related tasks.
Things your child enjoys outside of school.
What you see as strengths or struggles for your child.
Your child's feelings about school so far.
Ask important questions:
What are my child’s strengths and areas for improvement?
How does my child get along with classmates in the virtual classroom?
What can we do at home to support what is happening in the classroom?
Action steps:
Share with your child the highlights of the conference
Commend your child, for their genuine efforts and successes
Discuss ways you can help your child at home with areas for growth
Check-in periodically with your child and his or her teacher
At South School, we continue to provide our students with an engaging and rich learning environment. In a collaborative effort, we want children to thrive in all ways possible. Education is a joint venture, and our educators greatly appreciate the many ways you provide support for your children. Student success is attributed to the partnership and the relationships we build within our community, and this is MOST important than ever.
Happy Fall!
Lina Butte
South School Principal

Yearbook
We’re off to a great start! Thank you to all of those who have been sending us photos of our kids at school. We’ve been gathering photos of scenes on the playground, to the library, to the 1st grade Apple Fair, and at our first all-school event, the always entertaining, South School Social. Please send any photos you wish to submit to: southtigeryearbook@gmail.com.
A quick note about your child’s yearbook. At this time of year, the South Parent Group (SPG) pre-purchases a yearbook for each child attending South School. A portion of your dues is allocated for this expense. Please pay your dues ASAP. The yearbook budget assumes that all families will participate and our yearbook team works hard all year to put out our best book yet.
