Academic English
Student Story
How Academic English will help me in the future.
I am a new student at Corona-Norco Adult School. My name is Brenda Renderos and I have been living in the United States since 2006. I have been taking ESL classes intermittently the last couple of years. I used to live in Santa Ana but moved to Corona a few months ago. I tried to enroll in ESL classes at Corona-Norco Adult School, but when I took the CASAS test, I was placed in Academic English and Professional Communications class because my score was above ESL basic. Academic English is a structured English class that prepares students for college and career. First of all, this class is the next step to take after a student has finished all the ESL levels. Secondly, in this class we learn pronunciation, reading, speaking and listening in a more academic way. Finally, we also learn more complex vocabulary, better sentence structure and more intricate grammar to write professional letters and practice public speaking. Improving my English for higher education (not just basic English) helps me communicate with confidence and prepares me for college. I will look for a college-level class after I finish this course. Definitely, I would recommend Academic English class to everyone!

English Second Language (ESL)
Student Story
Learn English as a Second Language
ESL is an excellent resource for people who have not yet mastered the primary English Language. Ever since I started English classes with Mrs. Silvia Philobos, I feel that I have learned much more than I initially understood. I've heard she is the queen of grammar, and she truly is! Her dedication to her work is evident. I now feel more confident than I was in the beginning. I love Fridays, which are days I dedicated to conversing with my classmates. This practice has boosted my self-confidence when I go outside and interact with people.
I believe that English classes in this country is vital for individuals like me, who may not understand the language fully but are eager to succeed. This is important for several reasons. Firstly, English is the predominant language in this country. Secondly, it's necessary for professional development. Thirdly, understanding English is crucial if one wishes to pursue a career in the USA. Moreover, mastering grammar is essential. The classes have been especially helpful when I assist my children with their homework. Being able to understand parent-teacher meetings also leaves me feeling satisfied. There is still much for me to learn, but I believe I have taken the first step by being committed to attend classes and actively practicing the language. This is definitely a point in my favor. Thank you so much Corona Norco Adult School. - Lizbeth Anaya-Carranza CNAS Student

A Message from CNUSD Retired Employee, Mariely Rivas
I am a lifetime advocate for Adult Education programs offered at Adult Ed. They allow high school dropouts like me the opportunity to excel and succeed in life. There are many reasons why young adults make the decision to not complete their high school education. Allowing opportunities to do that at a later stage in life are both encouraging and hopeful. I was able to obtain my Bachelors’ Degree and excel in life because I was granted the opportunity to fulfill a personal goal of completing my education in the K-12 system and later pursue a higher education.
Congratulations on offering the types of programs that Adult Education offers and allowing anyone the opportunity to learn a second language, pursue a vocation or complete their education. Your work at Adult Education is commendable.
