Academic Incompletes
Students who received an INC (incomplete) in a course for any Spring 2021 classes due to not taking the final exam, will have until Friday, September 24th to take their final exam. Students should be contacting the teacher who issued the INC directly in order to make arrangements for taking the test. Teachers will then submit a grade change to our registrar who will update the student's transcript to reflect the updated grade. As per district policy, INCs will be changed to F's on the transcripts after September 24th for all students who do not take their final exam.

Accreditation Review – Student Surveys
Accreditation Review – Student Surveys
Spanish Springs High School is going through accreditation this school year, which is a required process that reviews our teaching practices, school climate, and school culture. The Accreditation Review process helps us focus on school improvement and the quality of learning and instruction.
One of the requirements is that we survey students, parents, teachers, and staff to get our stakeholders’ perceptions and feedback. Our Student Accreditations Surveys will be given to all students on Wednesday, September 15, during 5th period. Accreditation Surveys are different than the annual school district climate survey questions, in that sensitive questions are not asked. Accreditation survey questions solely focus on school engagement, school culture, and school climate so we can improve on our teaching practices.
Should you have any questions regarding accreditation, please contact Ms. Silvia Marin @ 775-425-7733 or simarin@washoeschools.net.
Accreditation Parent Surveys
Spanish Springs High School is going through a Re-Accreditation Review this school year, which is a required process every 5 years that reviews our teaching practices, school climate, and school culture. The Accreditation Review process helps the school staff focus on continuous school improvement and the quality of learning and teaching.
One of the requirements is that we survey students, parents, teachers, and staff to get our stakeholders’ feedback to improve our teaching practices to better serve our students. The Parent Accreditation Surveys will be open Wednesday, September 15 through Wednesday, September 29. It would be most appreciated if parents could complete the surveys so that your voice will be part of the continuous improvement process for Spanish Springs High School.
Please use the following buttons or QR Codes to access the two parent surveys.
Should you have any questions regarding accreditation, please contact Ms. Silvia Marin, Assistant Principal and Accreditation Facilitator, @ 775-425-7733 or simarin@washoeschools.net Thank you!

Attendance Policy
Spanish Springs HS follows all WCSD Attendance Policies and Procedures.
In Summary:
If your student(s) is sick, please keep your student(s) home from school.
Parent/guardian must call or email the school each day their student(s) is
absent to verify the student’s absence on that day to ensure the child's
safety. Please call the SSHS Office at 425-7733 to verify student absences.
Students who miss 10% or more of the total number of class periods for any reason during a semester (high school) for each course will be chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism rules are set by State and Federal guidelines.
Students will not be retained or fail a course (high school) based on attendance. However, students who miss 10% or more of class periods for any course that meets in a semester will be chronically absent in that course(s).
If the student must miss an entire class period for any reason, it is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to see that a written/verbal verification is provided to the school prior to, during, or within three days of an absence. Failure to do so within three days of the student's return to school will result in the absence being coded as Unverified (AUK).
The Health Department Excluded Distance Learning OR Contact Tracing (HDED or HDCT) code is used when a school has been notified by Washoe County Health Department or Washoe County School District that a student is excluded from school but is able to work on Temporary Distance Learning for the length of the exclusion.
Students are to attend Temporary Distance Learning daily and complete work assigned. Students will check-in daily on MS Teams through the Daily Agenda. If a student is unable to work due to health reasons or the student chooses not to work or communicate with the teacher daily, the student will be marked HDE. The HDED and HDCT codes do not count toward chronic absenteeism. HDE does count toward chronic absenteeism.
Make-Up Work
Make-up work must be provided for any absence, but it is the student’s responsibility to request the make-up work in advance or on the first day s/he returns to class. Because it is impossible to make-up some in-class assignments, coursework of a similar nature may be given. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in all make-up class work at the designated deadline. Failure to complete the make-up work within the designated deadline will result in no credit received for the make-up work.
Students will have the number of days absent plus one to complete missed make up work or concepts missed beginning on the day the teacher provides the missed assignments to the student. Teachers must provide missed make-up work or concepts missed within two days of the student’s return to class.

Donations
Dear Spanish Springs Families,
My name is Natasha Maximoff and I am a staff member at Spanish Springs School. Each year we work hard to support our students’ success and help them to represent themselves and our school well in the community. This has been a difficult time for us all but we want to make sure we can continue to provide amazing learning opportunities, positive reinforcement and support for our students.
COVID-19 continues to limit our ability to solicit donations from our local businesses. Due to our district’s budgetary constraints, we are incredibly limited in the positive reinforcement items that we can provide for our students without your help. As we work to recover as a school and a district, we hope we can count on your support in donating rewards or prizes (this can include gift cards or coupons, food/drink, items for raffles, etc.) to help us continue to motivate and celebrate our students and their achievements.
If you choose to contribute to our school, you will give more than just donated items, you’ll be a hero to the students who will be recognized for their hard work.
Please feel free to contact us at 775-425-7733 x38216 or by email (ncmaximoff@washoeschools.net) if you have any additional questions about our school or if you’d like to support us in another way. If you would like to donate, please let us know. Upon receipt of any donated items, we can provide a Tax Exempt letter for donations that are tax-deductible.
All of us at Spanish Springs High School thank you in advance for your support!
Warm regards,
Natasha Maximoff

Students’ class schedules will be available on Infinite Campus. We would like to encourage students to view and print them out for the first day of school. Students will be on a “C” schedule on the first day of school. The “C-Day” schedule means that they will be attending every class period on August 9th (zero, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). Once students begin classes, teachers will inform students what school supplies are needed for their classes. The subsequent days, students will follow our traditional A-Day, B-Day, rotating block schedule.

Important Updates
Athletic COVID testing will occur weekly for all student athletes regardless of vaccination status on all levels of the football team (a close contact, high-risk sport) and other teams that are traveling outside WCSD during that week. All students must have a negative test to participate in that week’s events. Positive results may lead to exclusions from athletic participation as well as exclusions from school. The next two testing date at SSHS are:
Tuesday, September 7th from 7:45am to 11:00am in the Commons (cafeteria)
Monday, September 13th from 7:45am to 11:00am in the Commons (cafeteria)
STUDENT CONSENT FORM FOR COVID-19 TESTING
Masks are required to be worn by all spectators, regardless of vaccination status, at all indoor school events per governor directive. Everyone planning on attending indoor events at the school should self-monitor for COVID symptoms before attending, socially distance where possible, and wearing masks at all times while in any area inside the school. We need to adhere to these requirements to keep our students playing and to keep athletics and activities running at our school.
