Reminders about early dismissal
We have a student population of 1,000. The volume of calls that we receive is higher now than ever before at Hixson. We simply cannot handle an influx of early dismissal requests after 3:00 pm, which is why I need you to wait until 3:25 pm if you are trying to request an early dismissal after 3:00 pm.
It is always our goal to respond to parent requests as quickly as possible. Please be patient with us as we work diligently to respond to your needs, and as always, be kind and respectful to the Hixson staff.
Thank you for your support of Hixson Middle School!

Grades at Hixson
At Hixson, our grading policy weighs formative assignments (homework, daily check-ins, quizzes, etc.) as 20% of the student’s grade and summative assignments (tests, culminating projects, etc.) as 80% of a student’s grade.
You may have noticed that your child's term 2 grade is different from their term 1 grade. The term 1 grade is calculated using the formula for assignments from August 23 to October 20. The term 2 grade is calculated using the formula for assignments assigned from October 25 to December 21. The semester 1 grade is calculated using this formula for all assignments from August 23 to December 21. The semester grade is the cumulative grade and is viewable on the parent portal. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s grade-level principal.
Hixson Food Drive
Every night, kids all over the world go to bed hungry. In the Webster Groves School District, the USDA estimates that 1 in 6 students don’t know where their next meal will come from. In an effort to help support our classmates and families, the Hixson Leaders are kicking off a drive to collect food and personal care items. Personal care items are items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, and deodorant, that are not typically covered by SNAP benefits. Based on the elementary school you went to, we are asking you to bring in specific items. Your statesmen time has the list, and they will be posted around the building. Ask your Statesmen Time teacher if you have any questions. The drive will begin this Monday, November 8th and run through the end of the day, December 3rd. Bring these items to your statesmen time classroom. Statesmen Time teachers will tally the total number of items donated. For example, if you donate one can of soup, that’s one item. BUT, if you donate a box of 24 individually wrapped, single serve items, you get credit for 24 items.
What you should bring:
Please make a point to tell your students to also consider gluten-free items Bristol - Breakfast items, Poptarts, granola bars, cereal, oatmeal, canned fruit, etc. Avery - Lunch items, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly, fruit cups, canned meats, pasta, etc. Clark and Hudson - Snack items, chips, fruit snacks, jello, Goldfish, crackers, etc. Edgar Road and Givens - Personal care products, soap, deodorant, bandaids, feminine care products (pads, tampons), travel-sized shower items, diapers, etc.

Hixson PTO Update
Fortnightly of Webster Groves Registration is open!
Fortnightly is a time-honored tradition for 7th and 8th grade students in Webster Groves. Each year for many decades now, parents in the Webster Groves school district have worked together to provide our children with an opportunity to learn social skills and etiquette needed for success in business and social settings. This program is called “Fortnightly of Webster Groves,” after its original bi-weekly schedule. Today, the program is a sponsored activity of the Hixson Middle School PTO. This year the program will consist of four sessions spread throughout the school year. There will be a final party for all participants to show off their newly learned etiquette and dance skills.
In addition to learning some of the common conventions of meeting new people, table manners, and social media, students are also taught traditional dances as well as some contemporary dance steps. At each session, the youth will spend two hours with professional etiquette and dance instructors, including time for socializing with friends. Volunteer parent chaperones are present at all Fortnightly of Webster Groves events.
The Fortnightly of Webster Groves program is open to any 7th or 8th grader enrolled at Hixson Middle School, regardless of race, religion, or ability. While there is a charge for participation to cover costs, scholarships are available for families who need it, so cost should not be a barrier to any student. All requests are kept confidential.
