Wetten students release butterflies to celebrate pollinator hill
"Second grade teacher Kassy Babeckos was the exact instigator for this part of the project," said project coordinator Nancy Eichstadt. "She had the entire first grade raising caterpillars to grow butterflies for us. They also released some at the school and planted a pollinator garden over there."
Gladstone students from other schools also had roles in the three-year project, which was funded by Metro, Friends of the Gladstone Nature Park, and OnPoint Credit Union. In previous years, Gladstone High freshmen built and installed mason bee houses and Kraxberger sixth graders helped plant native species.
Free summer lunch program planned
Gladstone Schools plans a free summer lunch program at the Gladstone Center for Children & Families. Nutritious meals will be served July 5 to August 5 from 11 a.m. to noon, Mondays through Fridays. All youths age 1 to 18 are welcome.
Non-Discrimination Policy
In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, Gladstone School District is prohibited from discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. The district is an equal opportunity provider.
2022-23 school year to begin August 29
The Gladstone School Board approved the calendar for the 2022-23 school year. Like this year, school will begin before Labor Day, but families will again have a four–day weekend to celebrate the holiday.
“Regular school attendance is essential to student success,” said Assistant Superinten-dent Jeremiah Patterson. “We are releasing the calendar early so families can plan trips at times when children won’t miss school.”
The new calendar is posted on the district website.
