Advisory
Our sixth graders had an important lesson today about stereotypes. We have a diverse population and it is vital for our students to understand the impact of steterotpyes and assumptions. The goal is to help students respect one another and make our school community even stronger and more cohesive. Students explored the definition of seterotypes and their impact using real life examples. The students discussed ways in which to ‘shatter’ these stereotypes that exist around us and appreciate others perspectives.
Communication is key in all aspects of life. Today our seventh graders worked on active listening. As a class they researched and discussed what active listening is and what it looks and sounds like. Once they had a good understanding of the definition students were broken up into pairs to practice this skill. Students had to sit back to back and describe to the other person what was in front of them while the other student had to try and draw the description without asking any questions. Be sure to ask your child how they did with this activity.
In eighth grade our students had a TSI (The Social Institute) lesson on social media ads and influencers. Students discussed and reflected on how much they are influenced by online ads and media influencers. Students were also cautioned to be careful as not all ads or influencers are honest about what or why they are posting. There are many ethical challendes surrounding social meida influencers. Please engage and contune to have these important conversations with your children. You can access the TSI parent toolkit here. Your Parent Toolkit School Code: 2760D6C62940E9
