November-December 2017
November/December 2017
Dear Waukesha East Parents/Guardians and Students,
Happy holidays! We have a lot to celebrate as a school community during this festive time of year. We are continuing to work towards our school goals and we’re making strides toward improving our academics, attendance, and school culture. During the month of November we hosted another college visit from UW-Waukesha during our Academic and Career Planning (ACP) homeroom time. Our seniors learned about the enrollment process, program offerings, and campus life. A representative will be returning to meet with prospective students one-on-one to assist them with the enrollment process. In an effort to continue to improve our attendance we are having an attendance challenge for the month of December. All students who maintain or exceed 90% attendance (2 or fewer absences and 3 or fewer tardies) will be invited to movie and popcorn on December 22, 2017. As a school we recognize that attendance is a key factor to success for our students, so we are making every effort to get our students through the doors each day.
As a school community we are currently focusing on generosity, one of the four components of the Circle of Courage. Our GEDO-2 students organized a coin drive to raise funds for the Christmas Clearing Council to buy presents for children in need this holiday season. I am thrilled to share that we raised $175 enough to sponsor two children. We are currently in the process of starting an in-house Community Closet for our students and families. We are hopeful that we will be able to provide food, clothing, and toiletry items for students and families in need through both monetary and community donations. There will be more information to come in the near future.
As we close out 2017 and look forward to 2018, there are a few things that I would like to bring to your attention. Winter break is December 22 – January 1; classes resume on January 2, 2018. Semester exams will be January 17th, 18th, and 19th an exam schedule will be shared at a later date. Semester one ends on January 19, 2018, so make sure that all assignments and assessments are up to date by checking Infinite Campus. Lastly, there is no school for students on January 22nd and 23rd.
