Principal's Message for September 10, 2015
Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
As I write to you, a cool breeze is blowing through my office window, confirming that the heat wave has passed. I could not be more proud of the efforts of our students and staff as they persevered through the uncomfortable heat, focused on safety and hydration, and moved forward with their learning activities.
Reflective of our continued efforts toward more engaging student-centered learning opportunities for all, our revised independent-work (homework) policy allows teachers to offer students learning experiences outside of the classroom that build upon the students’ individual strengths and interests. Examples include digital exploration of high-interest topics, project-based learning, and enrichment challenges. For more details, please refer to the “Independent Work” pages of our Student/Parent Handbook (linked below). We look forward to sharing examples of student work with you as the year progresses.
JMS school pictures will be taken next week on September 15th and 16th. You will receive a flyer in your child's folder tomorrow with a schedule and package details. Our new photographer, Heather Norris, graduate of the Hallmark Institute of Photography, serves the greater Litchfield County in capturing beautiful portraiture of families, children, and pets. To assist Heather and her staff with the children as they prepare to be photographed, VOLUNTEERS would be greatly appreciated.
Please note the following:
Our annual BOOK BLAST & BARBECUE will take place THIS EVENING (9/10/15) from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Wamogo, rain or shine.
Please contact the office if you are willing to VOLUNTEER to help with SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS next week.
Our first PTO meeting took place on Wednesday and was well attended by a balance of returning active members and motivated new faces. Volunteers are still needed for the JMS Carnival; please contact Jessy Barone if you are available.
Students' Governor's Reading Challenge logs are due by tomorrow, September 11th.
