The highlights are on a rotation throughout the year and each content/department will be the focus for the week.
Mrs. Standlee, Band
Elective Instructional Highlight!
Mrs. Standlee has been working on getting students to think critically in band and engage in discourse. She thinks about misconceptions beforehand to pose questions so students can correct their own mistakes and are able to articulate their path through a piece of music.
She is allowing them wait time to answer questions and encourages them with precise praise. That is she ties her praise to specifically what they are doing. Example-great job thinking about how you could stabilize your note. You said you needed to take a deep breath first and that’s exactly right!
Thank you for engaging students in questioning and discourse Mrs. Standlee.
- Send text and picture to Ms. Taylor via email. (pictures that are texted will not be included, only emailed pictures)
- Subject line must include Spotlight.
- Due by every Friday, 5pm.
Spotlight on 6th Grade Team, Ms. Jefferson & Mrs. De la Rosa
Wonderful things happening during our SEL sessions!!! I was on 6th grade hall during the Friday SEL advisory and the commitment and support for teaching SEL is evident. Kudos 6th Grade Team! Great to see the relationships developing.
A special shout out to Ms. Jefferson and Mrs. De la Rosa, - loved seeing the relationships, humor, and thoughtfulness happening during the SEL session.
Spotlight on Ms. Webb, Ms. Hudson, Ms. Grieb, Ms. Gillespie & Ms. Harry, and Ms. Clark
I would like to spotlight Ms. Webb, Ms. Hudson, Ms. Grieb, and Ms. Gillispie/Ms. Harry. They brought their classes in for poetry stations in the library this week and their students did well and a great time choosing from a variety of poems to create and write from tables to computers with gothic and visual poems. I forgot to get a picture of Ms. Webb with her class due to being so involved with students. I apologize.
Spotlight on Ms. Lewis (aka DJ Louie Lew)
I truly appreciate the music in the morning and the uplifting messages in the morning! Thank you for taking this over and doing such a fantastic job!!! We are all grooving in the hallways on our way to our morning duty!
Spotlight on Ms. Lawson
As I was taking a stroll in the 6th grade hall, I overheard the most tender one-on-one instruction and stopped to see who it was. How fortunate are we to have a teacher like Ms. Lawson. Helping our 6th graders to gain a firm foundation sets them up for tons of academic success. You rock Ms. Lawson!
Spotlight on Ms. Fuller, Mr. Green, Ms. Earl, and Mrs. Kimani
Mrs. Kimani
Mrs. Kimani, your smile is infectious, and it definitely rubs off on me whenever I see you. No matter what kind of mood I'm in, seeing you in a good mood all the time definitely lifts my spirits. Thank you for being you!
Ms. Earl,
Ms. Earl you are full of energy and always smiling. I have never seen you in a bad mood and that rubs off on me every time we speak to each other. Keep being you!
Ms. Fuller,
Ms. Fuller, I appreciate the fact that you are always smiling and always ask how I am doing. I have never seen you in a bad mood or heard you say anything negative, and I appreciate you for that. Keep being you!
Mr. Green,
Mr. Green, it's always a pleasure to talk to you and share a fist bump. I have never seen you in a bad mood and I appreciate that about you. You do your job with pride and I have never heard you say anything negative about it. Thank you for working hard every time I see you, it always motivates me to do the same. Keep being you!
Spotlight on Ms. Cardenas
I will like to take the time to thank MS. Cardenas for the kind gift of an apron and also for the popcorn.
Spotlight on ARSA Administrators & Mrs. Crabtree
On Monday all administrators visited our feeder elementary schools: Callejo, Urban Park, Silberstein, and Tatum to address the 5th graders about our upcoming ARSA STEAM NightShowcase.
I truly appreciate the team going out and sharing how awesome our campus is with our future Rangers! We were all so well received and the scholars truly were excited and loved hearing about ARSA!
Thank you to Mrs. Crabtree for making custom shirts for a few of our lucky future rangers!! They loved the shirts and some sported them right then and there!
Spotlight on Mr. Stephens
At the beginning of the year Mr. Stephens, one of our 8th grade social studies team members, gave me a “Come & Take it Flag”. That flag represents the Battle of Gonzales, the first battle of the Texas Revolution. I knew it would be a helpful tool to refer to when we discussed the Texas revolution, however, I had no idea that it would lead to that particular SE being the highest scored SE on our 2nd 6 weeks common assessment. Not only would I like to highlight Mr. Stephens for giving me the flag, but for once again showing me that room décor and anchor charts reinforce student learning.
Spotlight on Mrs. Linwood
I would also like to spotlight Mrs. Linwood for the work she is putting in as the campus SEL administrator. She has been producing high quality, engaging presentations for the staff to present to the students during our SEL advisory periods. Mrs. Linwood, like all administrators, has a lot on her plate, but she continues to poor her heart into this important initiative that we are undertaking this year. Way to go, Mrs. Linwood! Thank you for your support!
Spotlight to all ARSA STEAM Staff & Scholars Teams
To all of our teachers who will be participating and supporting our scholars showcasing their talents, for our ARSA STEAM Night, 11/13, much thanks!! I know this is an additional ask of you all and I appreciate the excitement and positive energy around the upcoming event.
We met on Thursday and there were so many scholars there to find out about the showcase and they seemed truly excited to be a part of the evening event. Of course I have no pictures, but there were a lot of scholars in the auditorium :-).
Thank you again and looking forward to a great turn out!
Spotlight on Mrs. Quintana
I want to spotlight Mrs. Q for the work she does leading the LPAC committee. She is working hard to make sure the students get the services they need to be successful and helping exit those students who have proven themselves to be ready. Not only does she work hard at this, she keeps her classes interesting and engaging, and is always willing to lend a hand when a co-worker is in need or has a question. She is truly a Legendary Ranger
Spotlight on Ms. Esteban
I just wanted to spotlight on Ms.Esteban (Tina) she stepped in to help me on Tuesday during the time teachers turn in their scoresheets , it made the process so much easier for me . Thanks for the helping Hand
