The Notre Dame
The Notre Dame was a Catholic Cathedral built in the 13th and 14th centuries but is constantly renovated. This cathedral makes use of gothic styled architecture. The Notre Dame has stained glass from the the 1300's and other details from bygone eras.
Eiffel tower
The Eiffel Tower was constructed in 1889 for the 1889 Paris world's fair. At 1063 feet, this tower was the tallest structure in the world at the time of completion. This tower has been around for 126 years. The tower symbolizes great French architectural feats.
The Louvre
The Louvre is a museum built on a French fortress and palace. The Louvre is one of the most visited in the world. Here, there are many artworks such as the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo.
The French flag
The French flag has three vertical stripes of blue, white and red. The colors represent Liberty, equality and fraternity. The blue and red were the colors of French saints while white has been on French flags for many years. The three colors were first used during the revolution.
French geography
The country of France resides between Spain and the Bay of Biscay to the west and to the east is Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy. To the south is the Mediterranean Sea and the north is the English Channel and the U.K. Most of the land is farmland and to the southeast is the French Alps, a mountain range.
History of France 1
France was once called Gaul during the time of the Roman Empire. Gaul was part of the Roman Empire. When the Roman Empire fell, Gaul was overrun by Germanic barbarians.
History of France 2
Gaul was the land of the Franks, until Charlemagne was crowned emperor of the Holy Roman Empire by the pope in 800 CE which included Gaul.
History of France 3
When the Black Death came to Europe feudalism was destroyed. The French started rebelling against the royalty: King Louis and queen Marie Antoinette. This started the French Revolution and the reign of terror where thousands died through daily executions. Napoleon declared himself emperor of France and invaded Russia and dissolved the Holy Roman Empire.
Currency
The French use the money of the European Union, the euro. The French formerly used the franc.
Government
The French have a constitutional republic like the United States of America. The French president's name is François Hollande.
France and the European Union
France was a founding member of the EU after World War Two. France joined in 1958. France uses their common currency, the euro.

1. The third crusade was declared in the unfinished Notre Dame.
2. France is the fifth wealthiest country on earth.
3. The English Channel, (the sea that separates France from Britain) was swam by a woman in under eight hours.
