Keeping High School Sports
By: Caleb Berry
Kids in high school play sports to have fun and to hang out with friends. Kids learn vital life lessons when playing sports. Sports offer kids with tons of opportunities. Why take these away from these hardworking kids?
Playing with friends
High School sports are things you will never forget. Getting to represent your town with your best friends is an amazing feeling. The friends you make while playing sports will be the friends you keep for years to come. How could people want to take this away from kids?
Getting stronger
High School Sports require rigorous training to make sure that you can stay at the top of your game. Football players train almost year round to get stronger and faster. Lifting weights just doesn’t just help you with sports, it also helps with how you feel about yourself. You may ask, how does this help you with how you feel? It simply helps by showing yourself that you can do things that you wouldn’t think you would be able to do.
Revealing Character
Kids can build character in many ways, such as doing good on school work, but sports reveal that kids build a lot more character. Being a student athlete at any school means that you are held at a higher standard. You could simply just be a role model to some younger kids. Your character that you have not only represents you but also your school. The character that is revealed by athletes is something that is not easily learned by normal kids. If sports are taken away, the character of kids may drop and make kids not as nice as they use to be.
Being known state wide
Playing sports is super fun. All sports have what they call playoffs which eventually lead to the championship. Winning this championship shines a huge spotlight on the athletes as well as the school. Playing in these games are awesome times for the athletes. Many of them won’t be able to go to another championship in their lives. How could you take this away from these hardworking teams?
Bettering yourself in your sport
If sports are taken away from school’s kids will not be able to better themselves like they had before. People could argue that they still have sports out of school, but the kids may not have the best coaching outside of school. These kids love the sports they play. Practicing may not be the best thing to do, but these kids want to better themselves to hopefully be the best that they can be.
Accomplishments
Just like winning state championships having individual accomplishments are an awesome thing as well. Athletes have the chance to make many other teams outside of the team they’re on. These teams include all county, all conference, all state, even all American! The best of the best athletes get these accomplishments. Even though only a select few athletes can get these accomplishments, they’re still an amazing thing. Taking sports away will take these away from these athletes.
Helps with school
If you’re a kid who plays sports in high school, then you’re a student athlete. School comes first in an athlete’s life. Many people say that kids don’t have time to get any of their school work done, which is a lie. All of the coaches make school work a priority over the sports they play. A lot of kids get help with school work by simply just telling their coaches. Many athletes are some of the smarter kids in school because they know the importance of the grades.
Getting Scholarships
Playing sports in high school helps kids in many ways. High school sports give students an opportunity to get scholarships to play in college. Scholarships are where a school gives the student money to come to their school, in some cases kids get a full ride which means they have to pay nothing to the school. If sports were taken away, many kids wouldn’t be able to go to college. Some kids need these to pay for college because they simply don’t have the money. Taking this away would be an awful idea.
Having a bond
One of the most important things about school sports is the bond you make with everyone. The bond created by playing in high school is something that a lot of people do not get the chance to experience. The bond between everyone is something that won’t be broken for years to come. Years down the road you will be able to call up a former teammate or coach simply just to catch up and see how they’re doing, or ask them for help. Taking sports away will ruin the chance for many friendships to be born. These friendships are more than normal friendships because you fight every week for the brother next to you, and you will do anything to win for them.
Conclusion
Keeping high school sports is a very important thing in a kid’s life. Sports offer kids with ample opportunities to help them succeed in life. How could someone in their right mind take these away from these hardworking kids?
