Principal's Update
Dear Lakeview Families,
We all seem to carry an extra bit of excitement with us during this time of year. With the holiday season upon us we have much to be thankful for. I hope that you and your family have many opportunities to share quality time with family and friends. This time of year is magical, and I hope that you and your children enjoy every moment of it. I had the pleasure of experiencing an amazing Jog-a-thon last month. I am looking forward seeing our Holiday Boutique. Thank you so much to all the PTA volunteers that helped to make this happen for our kids. This is the time of year when we think of the special people in our lives, of our families, friends, and co-workers with whom we share special times. We also feel grateful for all the things we have in our lives. It is having the “Attitude of Gratitude” that we need to preserve all year long. From our homes to yours, we wish you and your families a joyous holiday season. Have a safe, warm, and relaxing winter break. We look forward to 2020!
Thank you,
Principal Baker

Counselor's Reef
Hello Lakeview Families!
The character trait for December is Kindness, which is showing compassion to others, lending a helping hand and being considerate of other people’s feelings. Help to model the act of kindness for your child(ren). Be a role model to your children with random acts of kindness to them and others.
Below are some questions to discuss with your children about kindness:
- What was the last kind thing that you did for someone else?
- Why is it important to do chores? What would happen if we all stopped doing them?
- Should you be nice to someone who is not very nice to you? Explain your answer.
- In our family what are kind things we do for each other?
- What are things we can do to bring even more kindness into our home?
Holiday Tip: The Value of Traditions
According to psychologist Paul Pearsall, he states that “rituals within the family is one of the most important aspects of sound human development, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.” Traditions help define a family. Did you know that families who have traditions are more resilient? Family rituals give children a sense of security of how their family works together, which is crucial to their own sense of identity. Traditions create a sense of belonging. They can protect us from life’s uncertainties because they are a constant-we can count on them no matter what!! The Holiday season is here and it should be a time for relaxing, spending quality time with our families and creating traditions. For many of us, it’s the time of the year for doing the opposite-racing through the malls, shopping for last minute gifts, parties and a myriad of other things that you can share with your family over the Holiday Season. Here are some ideas to create more traditions with your family:
· Holiday lights- Pile in the car and bring some hot chocolate or eggnog and discover the lights around town.
· Eat together- This is one time when it should be a bit easier to all sit down the dinner table and have a great family conversation.
· Bake together- Get out all the family recipes for cookies! Deliver cookies to your friends and neighbors!
· Christmas Tree-pick out a Christmas tree together and make handmade ornaments to put on the tree, or have an ornament exchange with your family.
· Holiday Cards-After the Holidays, instead of throwing out all your cards, place them in a decorative bowl on the dinner table. Each night, one family member chooses a card and says a nice thing about that family.
If you need anything or have questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at altmank@pcsb.org.
That is the best way to contact me. Thanks! Mrs. Kari Altman-Wood, School Counselor

News from the Library
The holidays are here and we are all (maybe) going to eat too much foods, travel too much, watch too much football, enjoy our familes too much and have too much fun. I am worried that my students will not have time to read much….should I? At our last PTA meeting we heard Tuck Taylor tell us that we need to provide our children with learning opportunities and ensure they are in a learning environment so that they can achieve. Just like in sports, reading requires practice….but just like in sports, reading practice can be fun if students choose books that interest them.
Many students at Lakeview are enjoying reading the 15 Sunshine State Readers which are chosen each year because they are engaging and fun. We have multiple copies in the library but some are super popular and hard to get. Pinellas students can read the Sunshine State Readers online by going to www.pcsb.org/Clever and clicking on SORA. The SSYRA list will appear when SORA opens. Students click on “Borrow” to read the books online. There are lots of other great books in SORA, students can do a keyword search for any subject they are interested in. Additionally, students can find Ebooks in Mackinvia or read stories online in Myon. These can also be accessed in CLEVER.
Have a happy holiday.

Holiday tips from PE
Dear Lakeview Families,
Hope you all have a happy and safe Holiday Season. Make sure to take time to play outside and exercise as a family during the break and enjoy some active family time. PS...I'm not asking for donations but if you are looking for gift ideas for the PE Dept.(as a dad of school-aged kids I know it can be hard to think of gift ideas for teachers)we are always in need of I tunes gift cards so we can play music at PE to make lessons more fun for our kids.
Thank you, Coach Wood
Lost and Found
Thank you from Ms. Willis
I am so overwhelmed with all the flowers, gifts, cards and kind words that have been given to me upon my retirement. I am going to miss seeing all my students and families every day. Wishing everyone a great year and only the best for your families. To the staff, I don't know what I am going to do without seeing all of you. Our talks, laughing and crying, checking on each other, hearing about all the children in the families. You all have made this past 22 years a joy to come to work. It didn't seem like work, it felt like I was coming to visit family. I'm going to miss you all.
Love, Candace (Ms. Willis)
