Hansen Weekly Update
October 21, 2022
Hi Hansen Students, Parents, and Families!
We hope that all members in our Hansen community have had a great week! Here in the building, students and staff enjoyed engaging in 'STEAM' Week as we engaged in design challenges, read-alouds, and other activities related to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. This year's theme was once again 'See Yourself in STEAM', and we had incredible engagement and energy as we incorporated this into our work. We look forward to taking elements from this week and carrying them throughout the year, as well!
Please enjoy some of this week's highlights below...

Safety Drill on Thursday
I wanted to re-share my note from yesterday regarding our Enhanced Safety Drill. Please see below, and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
This morning, in collaboration with the Canton Police Department, we held an Enhanced Safety Drill at the Hansen School. There was no emergency, and the drill was held as a practice. During this morning's drill, our School Resource Officer played the role of a school intruder, and walked the building. Staff and students were told to lockdown their classrooms, and some chose to evacuate the building based on the information that was shared. The drill lasted just about five minutes before we returned to our usual routines.
Our students and staff did an amazing job, and the officers were extremely impressed by how prepared and appropriate everyone was during the drill. If your child has any questions or needs any assistance processing any portion of today's drill, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Next Friday, October 28, we will be holding a Hansen/Canton Pride Day at the school. Students and staff are invited to wear their Hansen/Canton gear or green and white to show their pride. We look forward to a great day!
If you are in need of any Hansen/Canton gear, please do not hesitate to reach out!
LAST CALL! Looking For School Based Equity Team Volunteers!
The Canton Public Schools values and is committed to Educational Equity, naming this as a Strategic Area of Focus within our Strategic Framework. In concert with the district and other Canton schools, the Hansen School is continuing the work of our School Equity Team, initially launched last year, and we are looking for parent/guardian and staff volunteers!
This group will lead the work of Educational Equity at the Hansen to support access, high performance, and positive outcomes and experiences for all members of our community.
We are looking for volunteers that are open to learning, reflecting, and that are committed to the Hansen being a truly equitable school. We anticipate meeting as a group after school 1-2 times per month from roughly 3:40 - 4:40.
If you are interested in participating as a member of the Hansen School Equity Team, please email me directly at brauningerd@cantonma.org. Thank you for your consideration!
