Digital Learning Day 2014
The Wonder Den is pleased to announce that Digital Learning Day is back! We will be celebrating our 2nd Annual Digital Learning Day on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. The South Carolina State Library will be here with their Technology Petting Zoo; Lexington County Public Library will be here to show you and your students how to access resources on your devices; our student teacher will share how to access NPES resources on your devices; and Brenda Burkett and I will be sharing cool Augmented Reality Apps with your students. Students are encouraged to bring their own devices on this day. If you want to do more Digital Learning Day activities in your classroom, be sure to check out the DLD website for lesson plans and ideas (http://www.digitallearningday.org/learn-and-explore/digital-learning-tools/ )!
The fun will continue after the students leave with a Technology Session for teachers brought to you by Mrs. Swygert (the library’s student teacher)!
If you would like to bring your class to the Learning Commons on Digital Learning Day to explore the learning experiences above, please sign up for a time using the sign-up sheet in the workroom. If you would like to come to Mrs. Swygert’s Technology Session, don’t forget to email Brenda Burkett to let her know you are planning to come.
Bubble Gum Day!
The Learning Commons Team and The Service Den is happy to present our 2nd Annual Bubble Gum Day on Friday, February 7, 2014!
Bubble Gum Day is celebrated each February and is a FUNdraising activity! We will be donating our proceeds from Bubble Gum Day to Relay for Life. Students will be able to purchase gum during recess for 50 cents per piece (while supplies last). You will get a baggie of gum for your grade level the morning of Bubble Gum Day. Sell gum during recess and bring the leftovers and money to the Learning Commons.
There is LOTS of fun you can have in your classroom on Bubble Gum Day…check out these resources!

Author Visit!
We are excited to announce that this year's author visit is Matthew Holm! Holm is the co-author and illustrator of the Babymouse and Squish graphic novels. These books are great for all ages and a wonderful way to introduce comic books and comic book writing in your classroom. Each classroom will receive a copy of one of his books to share and I will announce the visit to students when you come in for checkout this first week back to school. We have many of his books in our Learning Commons (they are always checked out though!). You can certainly get the books from a local book store, Amazon.com, or your public library. I bet many of your students already read and LOVE Babymouse and Squish - so, get ready for an exciting visit! An order form for books will go home this month and we will have some available for purchase the day of his visit. Matthew Holm will be at NPES on Tuesday, March 25. Check out the Babymouse website (http://www.randomhouse.com/kids/babymouse/ ) and Matthew Holm's website (http://www.matthewholm.net/) for more information!
