A CONSERVATORY PREP NEWS LETTER
WEEK OF OCTOBER 19-23, 2015
Students of Ms. Klein's English class are required to attend the presentation by author Sue Monk Kidd on Thursday, October 29th at 7:30PM at the JCC. Please be back at the school by 7:15 and bring your book to be signed. The evening should be over by 8:30.
Monday, November 2nd - Community service day helping the Day of the Dead Festival. This is our 5th year helping out with art booths, operating puppets, decorating and all other logistics. This is a big operation and we are counted on to be a big part of the success of the day. We will meet downtown (place TBA) Fort Lauderdale at 10:30 AM. Pick up will be after the parade at 7:30PM. Students will receive 9 service hours for the day. For students who need to be dropped off early we will meet at 8:30AM for breakfast at the Old Fort Lauderdale Breakfast House on Himmarshee.

Art in Latin Class
Inspired by illustrator Edward Gorey's "Gashlycrumb Tinies," the Latin students created captioned comics replacing the English relative pronouns "who" and "whom" with their Latin counterparts.
Experiencing Greek Culture
As part of Conservatory Prep Schools experiential learning, students and their families traveled to Taverna Opa for the first Family Night of the school year. The restaurant provided an amazing opportunity to enjoy the traditional food , music and dance of Greece.

Car Care Basics
With John Restrepo! Students learned the basics of caring for their own car. They learned to check the car battery, tire pressure, and engine fluids. Followed by learning to change a windshield wiper blade, a tire and how to recharge a car battery.
Buried Trash
Environmental Science students each buried trash in our make shift landfill. Here, Kyle unearths his items to study the rate of decomposition.
Nebulas
Middle school students learned how exploding stars turned into gases and the colorful phenomenon created. Students designed their own version of Nebulas.
