Meiosis and Mitosis
This will tell you about the differences between them.
Mitosis
In Mitosis DNA replication occurs. The number of cell divisions is 1. The number of daughter cells produced from one parent cell is 2. The number of chromosomes present in each daughter cell is 46. The daughter cells are genetically identical. They are used for growth, repair and a sexual reproduction.
Meiosis
In Meiosis DNA replication occurs. The number of cell divisions are 2. The number of daughter cells produced from one parent cell are 4. The number of Chromosomes present in each daughter cell are 23. The daughter cells are genetically unique. They are used for the production of gametes.
Mitosis
DNA Replication
In order for a cell to divide the original NA inside the cell must first make a copy of itself.
So looking at the picture I will explain what happens. In the first and second picture the parent DNA cells are starting to unzipping, the bases are split apart. In the third picture the unzipped halves of DNA stand, they act as a template to form a new DNA strand. In the last two pictures the two copies made containing half original DNA and half newly made DNA.
For the first image you call it: Parent DNA
For the second image you call it: Stepl unzipping.
For the last two images you call them the daughter DNA molecules.
Meiosis- DNA replication
In the first image you will see a parent cell, a complete set of Chromosomes. In the next you will see that DNA replication occurs, chromosomes line up, "cross over" of genes occurs. In the third image you will see that two daughter cells have been produced with complete set of chromosomes. In the last image four non-identical cells produced with half the number.
