From the Principal...
February 25th, 2022
Dear Westbrook Families,
I hope you all had a nice week and you are enjoying the sunshine today! Students will be bringing report cards and progress reports home today in their backpacks. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions regarding the report.
The next PTO Special Lunch is Friday, March 4th. If you ordered your child the special lunch and the school-provided lunch on Friday, we encourage students to bring their extra food home if they have a lunchbox to carry it in.
At the D57 Board of Education meeting on Thursday, February 24, the Board determined that students would be seated 3 feet from each other at lunch due to the District’s improving metrics. Starting Wednesday, March 2nd, Westbrook first graders will be seated three feet apart at tables in the lunchroom. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
For your Children,
Danielle Crandall

The LRC Buzz from Mrs. Capra
The kindergarten and 1st grade students have been reading the 2022 Monarch Nominees in preparation for their vote next week. Votes will be submitted and we will eagerly await the announcement of the winner in Illinois.
Since these books are for K-3rd grade, we have not read all of the titles together. We do own all of the nominees at Westbrook and The Mount Prospect Public Library has many copies as well.
Look for their Monarch Journals being sent home from school this week for you to enjoy as they narrow down their vote.
SumoKitty by David Biedrzycki
For SumoKitty by David Biedrzycki, the 1st graders made origami mouse bookmarks and the kindergarteners went on a scavenger hunt throughout the LRC.
Potato Pants by Laurie Keller

D57 PEPS (Partnering with Educators and Parents to Support student needs)
Thanks to everyone who came out to Lincoln for the screening of "Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety" and our enlightening panel discussion. It’s not too late to view this powerful new documentary! If you missed the in-person screening, you can still view the film on-demand through March 3. To watch the on-demand screening, please access the film at this link and select “Click Here for the Virtual Event.”
"Angst" is intended to start a conversation around the growing problem of anxiety. It features world champion swimmer Michael Phelps, experts in the field, and regular teens, who come together to explore the academic and social stress and pandemic fears and uncertainty that have increased mental health challenges among young people. The film breaks down what is currently going on and what young people can do to help themselves and others. It includes candid interviews and provides tips, tricks, strategies, and resources to help reset thinking patterns, push back against anxiety and support others.
Learn more about the film here: https://www.indieflix.com/angst?hsLang=en
Watch a trailer here: https://www.indieflix.com/angst?hsLang=en
We hope you can view “Angst” before March 3!

Note from the Nurse: COVID-19 Vaccination Card Information
Dear Parents,
District 57 offers families the opportunity to voluntarily provide their child’s COVID-19 vaccination status. We are asking parents to send a copy of their child's Covid vaccination card to the health office after their child receives their second dose. This is greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Julie Tworek, RN

First Student - Important Information about Stop Changes
A friendly reminder that the stop location issued to you by First Student is the only location your child will be dropped off.
- Bus drivers are not independently authorized to make route/stop changes. This practice is unsafe and leads to confusion when there is a substitute driver who is not aware of a "sweetheart" arrangement.
If you would like to request a stop change. Please visit D57.org or click here
We also recommend making a note of First Student's phone number: (847) 635-9877. Remember - your first call should be to First Student.
