Greetings Jacket Family!
Hey there, Jacket Family!
Welcome back, Jackets! I hope last week was one that allowed your student to step away from the deadlines and curriculums for a moment of rest and rejuvenation! I really hope so, because parents, this is the grading period I consider to be the most important. A student's results from quarter 7 will often dictate where they will land for their overall grade. Therefore, I recommend checking in on your parent portal often! If you are seeing anything of concern, please email your student's teacher and ask them how your student can receive additional support. Going along with that, make sure to stress to your student why quarter 7 is so important as well.
We hope all of our students planning on attending prom have a safe and pleasant evening! If you have a student attending, please speak with them about being safe and the dangers surrounding driving while under the influence of anything. We look forward to sharing happy memories with all of our students on Monday!

Reminders from Nurse Sherrill:
Parents,
PLEASE READ AND TALK TO YOUR KIDS
The number of teenage deaths due to drug overdose has increased in South Carolina. Many of these overdoses are the result of vapes and even gummies/candy being laced with harmful drugs. Some of these deaths have been unsuspecting teens who have been offered gummies from friends or who have given in and decided to vape for the very first time - neither aware of the possibility of the presence of other substances.
_____________________________________________________________________________
* Vaping alone, like smoking, is harmful to your health. Now that vapes can be laced with fentanyl, they can be deadly.
* South Carolina is seeing an increase in THC gummies being packaged as regular gummies. These are also being laced with fentanyl or other drugs and have caused overdose deaths.
_____________________________________________________________________________
WHAT TO DO:
* Take time to talk to your kids.
* Be open and honest with them if they come to you.
* Don't sugarcoat the information you give them - show them real statistics. Show them how many teenagers have died.
** It may be a hard conversation to have with your teens, but a hard conversation is easier than dealing with an overdose because they did not have the information.
