VICE PRINCIPAL JENNIFER THOMSON'S MESSAGE
When I entered Mitchell Elementary for the first time in 2005, it was to teach Grade 2 for five months until the end of the school year. Those five months have suddenly turned into over nineteen years. Over that time I have been blessed with the opportunity to teach multiple grade levels, to work in learning support and guidance, and to move into the Vice Principal position. Mitchell is an incredible community to be a part of, and I am so thankful for the relationships that I have been able to form with families, students, and staff. I have been here for so long that I am now starting to see my former students return as parents with their own children entering school! It is an absolute honour and privilege to have been appointed as the next Principal for Mitchell Elementary School. I look forward to this new challenge starting in September!

LIBERIA FUNDRAISER
CARING FOR KIDS
MES is a place where we care about those around us in our community and for those who need help across the world.
For the past twelve years, MES has partnered with Provision of Hope in helping children from Liberia, Africa. Education has the power to change lives and gives children a chance to move ahead in life and break the cycle of poverty. Children in Liberia have to pay to go to school and if their family doesn't have enough money, they are not allowed to attend school which puts them at a great disadvantage. We want to help!
MES students will be participating in activities to learn about Liberia and the students we sponsor there. We have named this event “Caring for Kids.” Students brought home envelopes to collect funds to continue sponsoring our 16 children for the next school year. Please return funds by May 6th and join us in caring for kids in Africa.
BIKE RODEO
On Monday, May 27th, we will be having the Annual MES Bike Safety Rodeo for students in grades 1 and 4, and on Tuesday, May 28th, for grades 2 and 3.
This event is sponsored by Manitoba Public Insurance to help educate students about the rules of the road and how to be safe riding their bikes. All students should bring their bike and helmet to school to participate. Thank you in advance for your support to promote safe cycling habits!
**If your child normally takes the bus and WILL NOT be taking the bus home that day, please send a note or call the office BEFORE 2PM to let us know. Any bus students without a note/phone call before 2:00 pm will be sent home on the bus as per our school policy.
A waiver will be sent out later this month for students to participate. Students without a signed waiver will not be permitted to participate in the rodeo.
