Linden Elementary Weekly Happenings
Staff Communication Connections
Other Tidbits - October 18, 2019
- If you haven't already done so, LEA staff please make sure you upload your SMART goals for student growth into Pivot.
- Halloween Parties - Please make sure you enter your parties on the Linden Elementary Calendar. In addition, all parents who are volunteering, not just visiting, must have an Ichat completed.
- Lesson Plans - Just a reminder that I must see your lesson plans when I come in for an observation. If you are using planbookedu, I can only see your plans if you click, "Turn In." If you have them done and you haven't clicked "Turn in," it will tell me you haven't completed any plans.
- Synergy Training on November 13 & 14 - Jeannine and Sandy will be going to learn about the new gradebook.
New this year we are going to be sending letters home periodically. This first one pulls any student that has missed 4 days or more. Your student's letters will be in your mailbox for you to send home in your weekly folders. This is to be sure parents are aware of how many absences their child has accumulated. Please follow up during fall conferences in regards to your attendance concerns and log into Synergy any contacts you make about attendance.
Major attendance issues will be dealt more seriously including personalized attendance letters, admin calls home, staffings, truancy officer contracts with families etc.

10-18-19
Why relationships matter for kids - Think about Maslow’s Hierarchy - before students can learn, their basic needs must be met first.
- The physiological Needs
- Need for safety and security
- Need for love and belonging
- Self esteem needs
- Cognitive needs
- Aesthetic Needs
- Self-Actualization
Success points to relationships - Dedicate 15 minutes every week. Here are some ideas from the training.
Get to know me pages for students.
Think about how we greet our kids etc..
3 positive a class period or a sticky note.
Student to student shout outs.
Every Friday - asks students to share 2 students they want to sit next to.
Who is not getting requested by anyone else
Who doesn’t even know who to request
Who never gets noticed enough to be nominated
Who had a million friend last week and none this week.
2 for 10 - Spend 2 minutes for 10 consecutive days talking with a student - don’t miss a day. This will help to rewire the students brain that school people really care about them. If you don’t use it you will lose it. 96.8% effective rate.
We will never build relationships with our students if we only call them out for doing something wrong.
Need 4-5 positives to each negative.
Good morning Andy = 2 deposits
Don’t double up your withdraws - For example - Maheen, put the phone away! What’s wrong with you.
If you take time to build a relationship, learning will increase and discipline will decrease.
