Knightly Update November 15, 2020
Edition Vol 9 Issue 16
Good morning. I hope you are enjoying your weekend. We are heading into our second quarter spirit week and I hope our students choose to participate in the daily themes and have some fun showing their school pride. Daily themes are provided within this week's update. Please ensure your child follows established guidelines when choosing what to wear to school. If students elect not to participate in a daily theme, they must wear appropriate uniform attire as required.
As we all know, daily COVID cases have increased within our community, and our school, like other schools, has had positive cases. In the event we have a positive case on our campus, we will contact all students who will be required to quarantine because of their exposure to a positive individual. As a parent, I completely understand the concern and even the frustration that comes with a child being forced to quarantine for a number of days. While we must follow established guidelines when having to quarantine students, please know our teachers and staff will do all we can to support those students that are quarantined. If your child must quarantine, and you have any questions, please contact the school or teachers so we can assist. As always, if your child tests positive for the COVID-19 virus, please contact the school as soon as possible.
Mid-quarter grades were posted on Friday. If you have not reviewed your child's academic progress, please do so via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have any concerns about your child's grades, please contact the appropriate instructor.
Believe it or not, final exams are just 20 school days away. As a reminder, no early final exams may be administered. This semester’s exams will be administered December 16 & 17. Additional information regarding final examinations is included in this week's update. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
I have enjoyed speaking with families about the new school at the arranged Community Meetings. We have four meeting dates left if you are interested in attending. Our intent is to livestream the meeting on November 30 and post the video of that meeting on our website. In addition, the PowerPoint that is being shared at the meetings will be posted on our school's website early next week for families to review. If you have any questions about the new school, please contact me.
Congratulations to our volleyball, badminton, cross country, and swim & dive athletes on their performance in their respective state championship tournaments. I am proud of the effort these students put forth throughout a challenging season and in the state tournaments - it was fun to watch you all compete. Great work, Knights! Best of luck to our varsity football team as they enter the state football championship tournament on Friday.
Thanks for choosing ACP. If you have any questions, please contact me. Enjoy your week!

First Semester Final Exams
It is hard to believe final exams are just 20 school days away. For some of our students, this will be their first experience having final examinations. Final exams are tests which are given to students to ensure that they have learned and retained the valuable information that they were taught throughout the semester. It is extremely important that students begin to prepare studying for their finals now and not wait until the last minute to prepare. If you have questions or concerns about final examinations, please contact your child's teacher or administration.
When are final exams being administered?
Students will take their final exams on Wednesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 17. Final exams for periods 1, 3 and 5 will be given on Wednesday and 2nd, 4th, and 6th period exams will be administered on Thursday. Zero hour exams will be administered on the day(s) assigned (Wednesday and/or Thursday) by the instructor. Students will be dismissed at 12:25 on both Wednesday & Thursday. There is no school on Friday, December 18.
How long will class period be on final exam days?
Class sessions are 90 minutes long. Students will have a five minute passing period between classes. Please feel free to send snacks with your child for them to eat during passing periods. Food is not permitted in the classroom. In addition, no lunch will be served on final exam days.
What if my child doesn't complete their final exam in the allotted time?
Students need to be prepared to complete their exam in the time allotted. Many college admission exams as well as upcoming AP exams are timed and students are required to complete the exam within the provided timeline. ACP's final exams are structured in the same manner. Students will not be given additional time to complete an exam once the period has concluded. If your child has any concerns, please have them speak with their instructor prior to the exam date.
What if my child is absent on the day of finals?
No early examinations will be allowed. In the event your child is absent or out-of-town, they will need to make up their final exam within the first two weeks of our return from winter break. Your child's final exam score will be a zero until they make-up the exam. Once the exam has been taken, their final exam grade will be entered and their semester grade changed appropriately. This change will be reflected via Infinite Campus.
How should my child prepare for their finals?
Teachers have prepared study guides that review the material being tested. Students will have study guides for all of their classes next month. Students should use the study guide provided to prepare and review for their final exam. If your child doesn't understand the material or concepts on the study guide, please encourage them to speak to their teacher. Prior to receiving their study guide, students should begin to review notes and organize information necessary to review for finals. Research recommends students study in chunks of 45 minutes followed by 15 minute breaks.
Remember, think and be positive! You got this.
Final Exam Tip of the Week
Time management. Plan, plan, plan. Before finals begin, get out your calendar and schedule as much of the week's ahead as possible and develop a study plan. Then stick with the schedule.
