A Note From Mrs. Fragomeni
Families,
Thank you for your continued support throughout the month of March! I'm proud of our Blue Jays for setting reading goals and persevering to reach them. A special thank you to Burton PTA for purchasing the family read aloud, Because of the Rabbit, for each family. I hope there were special moments throughout the month of March surrounding the love for reading.
I'm wishing your family a wonderful and safe spring break. I look forward to seeing our Blue Jays on Monday, April 1.
Go Blue Jays!

April is Autism Acceptance Month
We will kick off Autism Acceptance Month with a spirit week to show our kindness, respect, and empathy for our diverse learners at Burton and beyond.
- Magnificent Mind Monday - Wear a hat
- Sensory Friendly Tuesday - Wear pajamas or comfortable clothes
- We Work Together Wednesday - Wear Burton gear or blue
- T.E.A.M Thursday - Wear your favorite team attire
- Uniquely YOU Friday - Wear tie-dye or rainbow colors
Throughout April, the Burton team will help our students learn about autism, ways our autistic students communicate, sensory needs, and how to be a friend. Did you know Burton has an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) program at Burton? It's important for our students, families, and staff to learn about autism to help Burton continue to be an inclusive and supporting environment.
Is it Autism Awareness or Autism Acceptance?
"Awareness was the start many years ago but we are now moving on from awareness to acceptance. Most people you ask, will now tell you that they are aware of Autism and probably even know an autistic person. “Acceptance and awareness come from vastly different mindsets. Awareness is all about the problems and the difficulties, usually as experienced by the neurotypical majority of folks who are wanting to make everyone know. Awareness makes sure the world knows how difficult we make it for those around us. Acceptance looks at commonalities we share and at the strength inherent in diversity. Acceptance says “you are you, and that’s pretty awesome. I am me, and that’s pretty awesome.”” -Kassiane S

Glow Show
Dear Burton Families,
Thank you all for attending our fabulous Glow in the Dark Art Show last week. It was truly rewarding for me that so many of our children, parents, siblings, and even grandparents attended the event! I had so much fun watching our proud artists share their artwork with your families. I wanted to thank the following staff and parents who helped me make this night successful. I could not have done anything with their help!

Public Safety Update
New Signage
Just a reminder from the February 6th post in the Blue Jay Journal of the new HW Public Safety signage exiting the Rec Center parking lot and at the NE corner of Hart and Scotia. The goal is to decrease the traffic flow heading south on Scotia during school hours. Please be mindful of this traffic change as it may now impact other areas, especially Talbot and Scotia. We do have 5th grade safeties present at the corners, but slowing down when turning and driving with extra caution helps keep our Blue Jays safe.
If you have any questions or more information regarding traffic, please contact Lieutenant Spencer - bspencer@hwmi.org.
