Vol#7 Issue#3 First FULL Week of School!

The 2020-2021 school year has begun virtually! Thank you for your patience as we experienced some technical difficulties the first few days with slow student portal log-in and issues with Webex. For our PA families, classes being dropped in BUZZ. I have been in communication with our GPS Tec Services Department and BUZZ Tec Services. GPS Tec Services are actively working with our service provider to make adjustments to prevent the data loss that has been causing occasional audio loss and missing student pictures. We are hopeful this will be resolved this coming week. The missing classes in BUZZ for our PA students, should now be fixed and showing correctly in BUZZ. The start of the year has had our motto of GRIT & GRACE ringing true. Again, thank you for your patience. Please be assured this is a top priority for our district at this time!

Many have asked, "When will we return to in-person instruction?" GPS Governing Board has a regularly scheduled Work Study Meeting on Tuesday, August 11th at 6pm where they will be discussing the recently released "Benchmarks for Safely Re-Opening Schools" and determining when we can safely re-open our schools.

Annual Update
If you haven’t already, it is time to complete the online ‘Annual Update’ to prepare for the new school year. The ‘Annual Update’ in Infinite Campus allows you to tell us of any updates to your contact information, address changes, and updates to emergency contacts.
In order to ensure we can communicate with you regarding your student, or in case of emergency, it is essential that we have your up to date contact details. Please log in to your Infinite Campus parent portal and complete your student’s ‘Annual Update’ today.

Student Expectations (Be PawRRRific!)
COVID-19 school closures have significantly impacted all our lives. This situation, however, has not altered the Gilbert Public Schools’ desire to provide a quality educational environment for students. It is extremely important that all students remember that, while utilizing online learning opportunities, it is still their responsibility to interact appropriately with teachers and other students at all times. This means that, although we are not physically together, students must follow established teacher online classroom rules, including treating each other with respect. Students are accountable for their own behavior.
If a student is determined to not be following appropriate behavioral expectations as listed in the link below, they are likely to receive consequences. Please be a team player and help us work together through this challenging time!

GPS Governing Board Update
On Tuesday, August 11, we have a scheduled ‘Work-Study and Brief Governing Board Business Meeting’. The meeting begins at 6:00 pm and will take place in the Governing Board meeting room, 140 S. Gilbert Rd., Gilbert, AZ 85296.
As you may already be aware, our Governing Board schedules two meetings per month. ‘Work-Study and Brief Board Business Meetings’ take place on the second Tuesday of the month and ‘Governing Board Business Meetings’ take place on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Please note, as per our usual practice for ‘Work-Study and Brief Board Business Meetings’ there will be no public comment at Tuesday's meeting. If you have comments and feedback for the Governing Board please submit these by email to board@gilbertschools.net.
In an abundance of caution and to promote social distancing, the District is encouraging members of the public to view and access the Governing Board meeting at the following link: www.gilbertschools.net/board.
Members of the public who wish to attend the Governing Board meeting in person, please note there will be no public comment at this meeting, as noted above. Chairs will be arranged so that members of the public are distanced from each other and face coverings will be requested as per Maricopa County guidance. If the Governing Board room reaches a capacity beyond what is currently recommended by Government agencies, the District will offer live streaming of the meeting in an overflow room in order to abide by those recommendations.
