Bulldog Bulletin
Issue 31: April 14, 2024
As a school community, we will commit ourselves to supporting and respecting each other through collaboration and open communication. Students will take pride in meeting or exceeding academic and social expectations. Our learning environment will be safe, challenging, and engaging. We will support and respect the needs of the whole child and their individual learning styles.
As a member of the Barstow Elementary School Community,
I will show RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, RESILIENCE, and SAFETY
Month of the Military Child
The Defense Department celebrates military children during the month of April. There are more than 1.6 million military children who face many challenges and unique experiences as a result of their parents' service.
While military members serve around the world, we often forget the challenges faced by their children. Military families move on average every two to three years, impacting military children through changing schools and support networks.
Celebrate Military Children on April 15 for Purple Up! Day
Throughout the month of April, military families are the focus as the entire month is known as the Month of the Military Child. However, each year on April 15th, the military community comes together for Purple Up! for Military Kids Day. There are events in-person and online held each year. Purple Up! Day is a great way to support the sacrifices children make when they have a family member, or family members, serving our nation.
Purple references the joint environment of the military, encompassing all service branches, Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, and Veterans. Purple combines each branch’s colors into one: the Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard all use shades of blue, the Army uses green, and the Marines use red.
