Spirit Week - March 5-13
First Grade News!
The past couple of months, first-grade has been working on creating strong sentences and stories! Most of the first graders are wrapping up non-fiction writing in the next couple of weeks. They have learned to research different animals using PebbleGo as a research platform and build informational stories based on an animal they are interested in exploring! Students are enjoying the time to explore and gather information and share the information in different ways including writing webs, picture stories, sentence writing, story writing, and creating animal books! Each child in room 23 has created their own animal research book based on an animal they wanted to learn more about! These books are going to stay in the classroom for others to read and explore!
More First Grade News!
First grade had a visit from a scientist from the Top Secret Science Lab. He spoke to us about light and sound. We conducted 3 science experiments with him; Magic Beads, The Hole in Your Hand, and Homemade Thunder.
Fourth Grade News!
Last month, the fourth graders were visited by Artist-in-Residence Cat Judge. They brainstormed ideas, crafted models, and voted on the best design. Then, the students created an installation that incorporated underwater elements to represent S.W.I.M. After the project was completed, all RFS students and staff got to experience the immersive sculpture. Beautiful work, fourth graders!
Lion Parade
"Ms. Smith's 3rd and 4th grade extension classes created lion masks in honor of Chinese New Year, which ends on February 24th. On the last day of class, both groups replicated a lion parade throughout the school halls led by drum and cymbals. All the students at RFS have learned about the lunar New Year lion dance in music class, so we were excited to bring it to life for the school!"
