Principals' Points
I'm not sure about you, but I am done with this crazy weather. Going from beautiful, warm days to bitter, cold days definitely impacts my mood and response to various situations. Winter is a long season and causes frustration and irritability in many people (and students). Ever wonder how to help your children deal with this irritability? Here are a few helpful tips that you can teach your children to help with this:
1 Reframe negative thoughts into positive thoughts.
2. Set small, manageable goals.
3. Complete breathing exercises.
4. Get some exercise.
5. Share your thoughts and feelings.
7. Take time for favorite hobbies.
8. Practice self-care.
9. Make time for downtime.
Many of these will not come natural for your child (or maybe even for you), but with practice, your children will be much better equipped to navigate those times when they are irritated with those around them.
We only have a few more weeks of winter left. I know a few are still rooting for some more snow. I'm ready for warm sunshiny days!

“The first step to succeeding in school is showing up!”
How many times have you heard your child say they didn’t want to go to school? As caregivers we need to reinforce the importance of good attendance and here’s why…
Absenteeism affects everyone ~
While students pay the highest cost when they miss too much school, high absence rates also put a burden on teachers. Making up for lost instruction when students return adds to their workload and the loss of valuable classroom time for all students.
Average daily attendance, or ADA, is used to determine the allocated financial funding each school district will receive. Schools may encounter a decrease in funding due to excessive absenteeism, which can put and extreme strain on the schools’ budget. This limited budget may cause a lack of educational resources and materials for all the students in the school.
Be aware of our schools’ attendance policy.
Studies have shown that excessive absenteeism…
- Impacts acquiring skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and creative thinking.
- ü Has a negative effect on student academic achievement and lowers grade point averages.
- ü Affects student outcomes and causes a decline in test scores.
- ü Can lead to an increasing disinterest in school and academics in general.
- ü Has detrimental effects on social emotional development affecting future student success.
