Sept 15 - From the Superintendent

Hello, USD 231 Patrons and Employees.
I really appreciate, as does our Board of Education, receiving input and feedback from our students, employees, and patrons. The Board of Education and our leadership team need to hear our public's views, cares, and wishes. That's a very important part of our process.
The school year is off to a great start. I know some comments were made to the contrary, and we acknowledge that the district has areas of concern needing to be addressed. And - our team is doing just that - working to address these issues. Members of the Special Education Department and Human Resources Department are working collaboratively to fill positions that are almost unfillable. As you are aware, it is very difficult to find employees at this time in almost every industry. We will continue to work to try to find highly-qualified employees. We will also work diligently to retain the staff that already serve our community.
I'm also writing to share that I continue to thoroughly enjoy meeting students, staff, and patrons. This past week, I had the opportunity to visit with kindergarten students at Gardner Elementary and Madison Elementary. What a joy! We should all be so fortunate to have the opportunity to take a break in the middle of our day to visit with kindergartners.
Another wonderful event I witnessed first-hand was during the GEHS football game this past Friday. Approximately 165 elementary cheerleaders, in collaboration with GEHS cheerleaders, performed in front of a packed stadium! Frankly, it was super-cute. Additionally, the middle school bands joined the GEHS band to perform. This game, and the accompanying events, were a great reflection of our community. If your schedule allows, I strongly encourage you to take your family, regardless of what grade or building your child(ren) attends, to one of the Friday night GEHS football games.
Thank you again for a great start. Let's keep this ball rolling.
Sincerely,
Brian
