Parkway West Philanthropy Partner Organization for 2019-2020
Longhorn Universe, let's do what we do to help kids in our area who are battling difficult illness to give them something to look forward to and have a little better day.
Every day around the world, a child battling a critical illness will receive a wish. During a family’s darkest days, wishes can inspire hope, build strength, uplift spirits and encourage the belief in the impossible. Whether it’s a wish to have a puppy, meet a celebrity or be a superhero, each wish we grant at Make-A-Wish is as unique as each child. Yet, one thing remains consistent – the undeniable power wishes can have on a child’s emotional and physical health.
At Make-A-Wish, it is our vision to grant every eligible child’s wish – to ensure more kids have joyful experiences ... and some of the best days of their lives. Because wishes aren’t just nice – they are necessary. This is why wishes matter. This is Make-A-Wish.

August Athletes of the Month Sportsmanship
Athletes of the Month
Jailyn Jones (Football)--I nominated Jailyn as he came into the season as prepared as anyone in our program. He attended every weight room session, camp and jamboree sessions this summer. This was not something that he has shown over his first two years of high school.
Calie Hummel (Field Hockey)--Callie Hummel is in her senior season with the field hockey squad and has helped the Longhorn field hockey team start the 2019 season strong. She is a great leader for us and works extremely hard both offensively and defensively. Callie has tremendous speed and quickness and uses it to create wonderful scoring opportunities for us. She scored all 3 of our goals at Jamboree to lead the Longhorns to victory over Ursuline and Eureka. Callie led the team in goals at the Gateway Classic with 5 including a hat trick in the final game. She was clutch on both offensive and defensive corners on Saturday, August 31st at the Classic to help West pick up its first Gateway Classic Pool Championship!
Sportsmanship Athletes of the Month
Mia Catlett (Volleyball)--Mia has been a positive force on the JV volleyball team for the whole season. She brings full effort and energy to every practice and and is a leader both off and on the court. She has taken the freshmen on our JV team under her wing sometimes encouraging them to keep working or move on from a mistake, while other times she is reminding them of the expectations of the team and challenging them to raise their game. Her loud communication during play has been essential to our success and her leadership is helping the girls on the team to become one unit and work together to better us all.
Dawsen Ren (Cross Country)--Dawson is one of our captains this season, and he has made it a point to introduce himself to all of our new runners, making them feel welcome, and even staying back with them when they are struggling to keep up on our team warm up.
