Cerritos High Student Completes Girl Scout Gold Award
Cerritos High School senior Olivia Mendoza recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, by completing a project that benefitted her community. Olivia, a soccer player, created a summer soccer camp for girls. This free camp gave girls soccer training and activities led by Cerritos High School girls soccer team players and coaches. The 30 girls who participated left with new skills and a sense of belonging. Well done, Olivia!
Student Board Representatives
Superintendent Dr. Gina Zietlow and members of her cabinet welcomed the Student Board Representatives for the 2023-2024 school year at the District Office this week. Student Board Representatives provide reports and updates about all happening at their schools to the Board of Education at meetings during the school year. Each high school and the ABC Adult School has two representatives who share reporting duties. Not only is this a great way for the Board to learn more about our schools, but it's an opportunity for students to get experience in public speaking. Students are selected by each school site and serve for the duration of the school year.
This year’s Student Board Representatives are:
Natalie Velasquez - Artesia HS
Ashley Martinez - Artesia HS
Diya Bhaichand - Cerritos HS
Aizah Khan - Cerritos HS
Malik Maniago - Gahr HS
Kaitlyn Teng - Gahr HS
Jesscilla Navarro - Tracy HS
Chris Smith - Tracy HS

Celebrating Attendance Awareness Month
September is Attendance Awareness Month, where we emphasize the importance of coming to school. When a student misses school, they not only miss out on academic learning but on important social growth as well. Attendance Awareness Month is our way of ensuring all families and students understand the importance of coming to school each and every day. This month, we’ll be celebrating with four fun days - Neon Day, College T-Shirt Day, Superhero Day, and Western Day. We hope you and your child will join in the fun as they learn why showing up to school has an impact on their future.
