Coach Rick Haines - Football Alberta Recognition
Coach Rick Haines was recognized on March 16 in Edmonton by Football Alberta as this years recipient of the Gary Hobson Memorial Award. Presented in memory of Gary Hobson (a former manager of the Calgary Stampeders), the recipient of this award is an active member of the Alberta football community who has made a significant contribution to the promotion, growth, and development of amateur football over an extended period of time in the province.
Coach Haines played his high school football at St. Mary's High School in Calgary and became a player/coach for the Hanna Rams (Senior Men's team...I bet you did not know we had one!) back in the 1970's when he came to teach in Hanna. A key individual in JC Charyk bringing back high school football in 1995, he and Coach Schnurer have been partners in crime on the defensive side of the ball for the past 30 years.
A coach that always puts player wellbeing above anything else, he recognizes that football is an avenue for the development of the complete student. With literally thousands of athletes that he has touched upon in a positive light, Coach Haines is such a worthy recipient of this prestigious honour, based on the sheer impact that he has made on the sport of football.
On behalf of all the players and coaches that Coach Haines has affected so positively over the years, JC Charyk Hanna School would like to congratulate and acknowledge him for his dedication to football, not only in Hanna, but throughout the province of Alberta; it is in a better place as a result of Coach Haines!
