Principal's Message
Dear Henry Ford Families,
As we enter the year of the Buffalo, I wish you all a great start to 2021. Last year was challenging for many families for a variety of reasons, but I am optimistic that this year we will have a much more productive experience. Students are so resilient, and I am confident that they will use newly-acquired skills as a result of Distance Learning to improve and enhance their learning abilities.
As I reflected on the past year, I came to realize that it wasn't a year of having everything that we may have wanted, but perhaps a year to have learned and appreciate all that we do have. Despite some of our losses (and I know some of us had them), we can be grateful for our loved ones, families, and friends. Those of us fortunate to spend a little extra time at home with our children may have bonded and appreciated them even more.
School will start once again on Tuesday, January 5, at 8:30 AM. All students, including students in our Pilot Classrooms and Learning Hubs, will remain at home for Distance Learning. On Tuesday, January 19, we will start In-Person Learning for some of our students. The Learning Hubs will also open up again.
If your child's teacher indicated they would return to In-Person Learning, and you selected In- Person Learning on the survey, your child will be able to return to school with his/her teacher. If you selected to remain with Distance Learning, you will be able to stay distance. If your teacher also opted to remain with Distance Learning your child will have his/her same teacher for Distance Learning. However, if you selected an option contrary to your child's teacher, your child will be assigned a different teacher for either Distance or In-Person Learning.
Confirmation of class assignments will be made available via email by the end of this week. Please remember that we will do everything possible to keep your child with his/her teacher if you selected the same option as your child's teacher. Also, as stated on the survey, students wanting to return to In-Person Learning will be assigned either the 8:15 or 8:30 AM start time or the 12:00 PM start. All In-Person sessions will meet for under 3 hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays will remain as asynchronous learning days for all students.
Again, my best wishes to all of you for the new year. May all of our families reunite once again, may friends find themselves, may we be able to embrace one another, and may the only contagious thing be happiness in 2021.
Sincerely,
Al Rosel, Ed.D.
Henry Ford School Principal
