November Counselor's Corner
Be a part of the Solution as a Forgiver
Why We Should Teach Our Children Forgiveness
Unforgiveness is a plague that afflicts our thoughts and hearts; it becomes a weight that has the potential to affect our physical and mental health. Perhaps most detrimental is the impact that unforgiveness can have in our relationships. The more we partner with unforgiveness, the more we struggle to find joy in ourselves and others.
What Forgiveness Is:
-Letting go of anger and resentment for a person who harmed or offended us
-Letting go of anger and resentment toward ourselves for mistakes made
-Letting go of anger and resentment toward ourselves for letting ourselves get hurt
-Finding peace with ourselves despite being hurt
-Helps us to develop empathy and compassion
-Allows us to be motivated by goodwill rather than revenge
What Forgiveness Is Not:
-Forgetting how you were hurt
-Reconciliation
-Changing someone
-Justice
How Forgiveness Can Help you Physically and Mentally:
Studies show that people who learn how to forgive are healthier, both physically and mentally.
-Relationships are stronger
-Less anxiety and depression
-Stronger immune system
-Less stress
-Hormonal balance
-Higher self-esteem
-People who forgive...age better!
How Do We Forgive?
Forgiveness is not always easy, especially if the person we need to forgive is a close friend or member of our family. Forgiveness takes time; it is an individual process that may require a lot of intention. You may need to talk with a close friend or counselor to walk through the process of forgiving. However, as encouragement, studies show that the more you forgive others, the easier it becomes.

In September students were identified as learners. In October they were recognized for being communicators. For the month of November, students will be acknowledged for exemplifying forgiveness.
