FHS will have School and Sport Pics in the building for two days to update our student yearbook photos and issue new IDs. Photos will be taken during the school day on Thursday, October 29th and on Tuesday, November 3rd.
Ordering information will be emailed by School and Sport Pics. We are working with the company to organize how we will take photos while maintaining safety and the least academic interruption. Students should be prepared to be called for a photo on either day.
Families of virtual students will also have the opportunity to have a school photo. Families of students in the virtual program will receive a link to Sign Up Genius and will pick an appointment time. The virtual opportunity will be on Thursday, October 29th from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. This time slot is only for students who are in the virtual program.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
STAND UP for Others
When you see someone being bullied, be brave and STAND UP for them. Bullies have been known to back off when others stand up for victims.
If you don't feel safe, get the help of an adult immediately. Be part of the solution -- not the problem!
It's a time to see everyone's differences and celebrate their similarities: Whether students are LGBT, African American, Asian, Muslim, AAPI,of Tribal descent or disabled ...make friends.
What can students do?
Be assertive- tell them to stop
Talk to someone you trust
Report online to StopIt
What can Teachers do?
What you’re already doing?
Creating opportunities for connection and building a positive classroom culture through the 3 signature practices
To do’s from Teaching Tolerance
Let students know harassment is always unacceptable
Speak in a matter of fact tone or voice about what you heard or saw
Intervene immediately, wait to restore/repair relationship
What can parents do?
Talk to your kid about their day, ask “what was the best part? The worst?”
Listen calmly and reflect back
Guide them to the problem solving process
Enlist the help of school team
Determining Close Contacts on the School Bus & Bus Safety
As we started this school year and put in place important safety measures, we determined that all students who ride the bus would be required to sit in an assigned seat. This change was purposeful to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and so that we could conduct efficient contact tracing when positive cases arise. When we conduct COVID-19 contract tracing, we rely heavily on those assigned seats to correctly pinpoint who would be a close contact. Lately, some of our contact tracing investigations have been hindered by students not sitting in their assigned seats on the bus.
We are asking for your help in making sure your student understands the importance and reason for the assigned seats on the bus.
Please check with your child to see if he/she knows what his/her assigned seat is on the bus.
Talk with your child about always taking that seat and the reason why.
If your child has forgotten which seat his/she rides contact the school office and that information will be provided.
If your child has different routes, consider including a notecard in his/her backpack with that information so they can refer to it when needed.
All bus drivers have a seating chart and can be helpful in directing students to the correct seat if needed. If a student does not remain in their assigned seat, he/she will receive a bus conduct violation. Repeated failure to follow bus rules will result in a bus suspension or exclusion from bus transportation.
Safety is our first priority, so please remind your child of the importance of this bus rule and all other bus rules. FirstStudent has supplied these helpful guides as resources: School Bus Safety Tips | Start Safe Guide | Top 6 Safety Tips for Kids
College Application Deadlines
Seniors - November 1 is a popular early action or early decision college application deadline. If your application has a November 1st deadline, make sure to submit your application and request your transcript on Xello or Common App by Wednesday, October 28. Requests can take a few business days to process, so any request should be submitted at least 3 school days before any deadline (please keep this in mind for future deadlines also).
If sending ACT or SAT scores, remember to request test scores directly from the test agency. If students need to request letters of recommendation, at least 2 weeks of time prior to any deadline is recommended. See the FHS Counseling website for more information and instructions on how to request your transcript on Xello and, as always, contact your counselor with questions.
