Introducing Ms. Rachel Cornelius
Rachel Cornelius, a Bronx native, wanted to be an educator for as long as she can remember. As a child she would gather teddy bears and younger cousins around a cot and pretend to be their teacher. She feels there is no other career that has a greater impact on the world. She aspires to have the type of impact her JHS Principal, Dr. Brindle, had on student’s lives. She graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor's Degree where she majored in Mathematics and minored in Anthropology, Africana Studies and Secondary Education. She completed her Master’s Degree in School Administration and Supervision at Mercy College.
Rachel Cornelius taught HS Mathematics for 10 years in Harlem, followed by 12.5 years as an Assistant Principal in midtown Manhattan. In her capacity as Assistant Principal in NYC she has supervised Mathematics, Science, Special Education, Physical Education, Guidance, School Operations, and has served as an Athletic Director for the PSAL. She joined the CSDNR as a school administrator in 2019. At New Rochelle High School she has served as a House Principal and an Interim Assistant Principal. In the past four years at NRHS she has also served as the MBK coordinator, Young Achievers’ administrator liaison, Black History Month Committee Representative, District and School Equity Team chair and helped launch the new MSKH district initiative.
She has been a resident of New Rochelle for over 12 years. She and her husband are the proud parents of a son who is a graduate of Iona Prep (‘11) and daughter who is a graduate of NRHS (‘17). In Mrs.Cornelius’ free time she enjoys supporting student events, attending JETS games, comedy shows and spending time with her family.

Eight Grade Cap and Gown Orders
On March 10, 8th-grade students will be measured at IEYMS for the Moving Up Ceremony cap and gown. This is a change from the original format. Ordering online is no longer an option. Thus the fee has been reduced to $17.00. If you have already received your cap and gown, there is nothing for you to do. Those who still need to order can pay by cash or checks made out to Zolnier. Money will be collected on March 10 when students are fitted.
