Announcements for November 12-November 16, 2018
Good Luck and Best Wishes to PUE Speech Pathologist Jennifer Garrett. Ms. Garrett is getting married this Saturday, November 17th.
United Way Campaign: The United Way Campaign is underway for WCPSS employees. You should have received an email with a pledge link from Superintendent Cathy Moore this past Wednesday. The campaign runs from November 7th through December 12th. The mission of United Way is to eradicate poverty and to increase social mobility through the power of partnerships. Although Wake County is generally considered an affluent County, 2 out of every 10 children in Wake County is in poverty, 3 out of every 5 children in Wake County are eligible for free and reduced lunch, and 1 out of every 5 families in Wake County in does not have health insurance. United Way supports many organizations that help others meet the United Way mission; Urban Ministries, Interact, Catholic charities, Inter-faith charities, Hope Center, the Boys and Girls Club, Haven House, the Tammy Lynn Center, Safe Child, and Communities in Schools to name a few. If you pledge to United Way through your personal link (see the email sent by Superintendent Moore) you will be automatically entered into a drawing each week for prizes such as Hurricanes tickets, various gift cards, and other prizes. Please help WCPSS help United Way through your support.
Bullying: “Bullying” is often used to describe someone being unkind to another person. Often parents will say their child is being “bullied.” We might say a child is a “bully.” Bullying is repeated unkind acts committed with the same victim over time repeatedly. A bully is someone that targets one individual or a group and does so repeatedly. If you suspect someone is being bullied or a parent reports bullying, please report this to Ms. Schreier or Ms. Fricke. WCPSS documents all incidents of bullying and school personnel are required to address any such behavior.
Lunch Schedules: Please make sure to notice changes to the lunch schedule due to Track 2 tracking out and Track 3 tracking in- some table assignments may have changed.

READvolution Deadline This Friday, November 16--PUE Students Reach Goal of 2,020 Books Read
This Week is the last chance to participate in the READvolution program. Students have until this Friday, November 16th for students to POST THEIR BOOK TITLES ONLINE AND their hockey pucks on the ice rink at the front of the school.
Students who achieve the reading goal of 20 minutes per day throughout the allotted time frame (for a total of 800 minutes) will receive two complimentary ticket vouchers to a Hurricanes home game.
For the school-wide component, schools that collectively read 2,020 books. Our students, as of this past Friday were at the 2054 books have read and will be entered into a drawing by region to participate in this year’s Cool School Field Trip to the PNC Arena in February 2019. Fingers crossed that our school is selected from the drawing to attend the Cool School Field Trip, students and get the opportunity to see a Hurricanes practice, participate in fun activities, and hear from the players.
Schools that are selected for the 2018 Cool School Field Trip that achieve the 2,020 goal this year will have their names entered into the regional drawing once. Schools that were not selected in 2018 and achieve the 2,020 goal will have their names entered into the drawing twice.
Guides have been created to share with families and school staff to help log reading and books into the READvolution Dashboard. Go to video overview to find out how to log in new books. Also go to the following links for more parent information on READvolution and a "info sheet" on signing books in.
